I just traded a 61' WMP Buddy Rich Classic for an orange 6.5x14 10 lug Jenkins/Martin snare drum. I love it. That makes two of Jerry's drums that I now have in my stash. At some point, I have to get a Jenkins/Martin kit.John

Very cool John! This is not the snare I was thinking of though. The one I was thinking of was a JM prototype shell that was wrapped in orange. It actually has real Leedy lugs. The one you pictured is one that I helped Jerry build. The lugs are Leedy influenced, as Allen Blaemire loved those lugs, and he designed his lugs with them in mind. Ours are just recreations of Allen's. Your snare came from the only orange lot of shells that Dave has spun up. Cherish that baby! :-)
Scott - They only made one set of the orange shells??? There has to be another snare or two out there because they have a photo of an all-orange kit at the website. I don't think they split this snare off from that one kit - if one kit is all they made. There had to be more than one snare shell that was made. What do you think?

If Jerry, or Dave was making a set of demonstration/sample shells, they would have made -two- snares, one in each size. A 5" and a 6.5 inch. I bet they used the 5" for the demo/sample kit pictured at their site and sold off the 6.5 later 'as a single' at some point. Jerry knew the business, it just makes sense he'd do it that way. You would want to show the snare drum in two sizes! If that's the deal, then I have the 6.5 from that sample set. Or... was it a sample run? In which case they would have made a few of each size.

You have to remember John, I was right there building the drums with Jerry. There were two 14" tubes sent with the lot. One for a floor tom, and one for two snares to be built, a 5" and 6.5". Take a look at this video from the 2013 Chicago Drum Show. One snare is with the kit, and one is on the shelf. BTW, thats yours truly giving a brief demo of the kit. ;-)

Holy chicken poop, Batman! That's my drum on the shelf with Dave. So cool to see and hear the orange kit. What a powerful sounding set of drums! The sound blew my socks off.
