That's looking great, Jeff. 10 lug, 14x6.5? What hoops are you using? They look new and really thick?
When you're done, that snare is going to blend right into the rest of your kit. :)

Nice Jeff I was just about to ask how the snare was coming along. I know you've been busy so very cool you had some time to work on it. I dig it. Yes Sir

Tim, the hoops are from drummaker.com. When I find a deal on some vintage cob hoops someday I will switch them out. But they do look nice and they are heavy. We will see, I have never put together a snare before so heck it might end up sounding bad. And yes it is a 6.5x14" shell. Im having fun with it, thats what counts.
Well, my next cabinet job is to be painted white so thought I would get these shells sprayed before the white stuff goes in the gun. Just need some heads for these guys and snare wires for the snare and I’m ready to rock. I am hoping I will get my badges soon then I can really be done with this project. All the shells have about five coats of level sealer that was sanded pretty aggressively in between. And then all have one coat of clear gloss. I will spray one more coat of gloss tonight so I can assemble the snare drum tomorrow. How do you like my snare bed?? I thought it came out good but it’s a first for me so tell me like it is.

Outstanding workmanship!!! The drums look good too!!! HAHA!! The snare bed looks good to me. Maybe a bit deep, hard to tell. Also, from the outside of the shell in,which ply layer does your 45 sit on?
You do some beautiful finish work!

I hope this answers your question. I cut the 45 the same depth inside and out so they are pretty much equal. Its an eight ply shell so I guess the flat part of the edge is half and half of a ply. Does that make sense? If the bed is too deep I can always redo it. It is 1/8th deep x 4.5" long.
Thank you for you compliment!
I was asking because a few drum builders I talk to cut there edges closer to the outside plys. So 3 plys in on an 8 ply drum.Using the third plys center as there target for the bearing edge. I understand you just fine too,LOL. As far as snare beds it is really what works for you. Some guys barely make it visible others cut deep and some go real wide. Once you do it a few times on different drums you just seem to know what works.I think your beds are just fine at an eighth. Which seems to be the standard formula. Looking forward to hearing it!!

Dang Jeff! That looks SOOO good!
Good stuff Jeff~! I think you should add drums to your website too. Snare came out excellent. Great job on all.
