I hope you get more work from the Forum, JC!! You deserve it...Purdie, I can`t wait to see the finished product!! Your choice of stain is KILLER!!Cheers

Jeff sent me -five- Mahogany stain swatches to choose from! The Cinnamon was the one that was the darkest and that to my eyes looked closest to the original Ludwig finish. Jeff is a solid pro and a decent guy. Easy to work with.

Thanks John, and everyone else but, the real test will be when John see's the drums in person. Then I hope he is as satisfied as he is with photos. I have a few more jobs to do for fellow members and they are all going to be really cool, so I will post some pics of those as well.

Thank you John for giving me the work!

Thank you!

Jeff - I'm a family man, like you. The day you posted that you'd lost an important job for your business, I started thinking of a way to help. I really felt it when you talked about it because I've been there myself. I consider you a true craftsman/perfectionist. I've seen your work and followed your many projects. Letting you do the veneer work on the shells was just a win/win situation. I get my drums done by a talented pro who cares about detail, and you get some work out of it so you can take care of your family.

We're all brothers under the skin. I appreciate and thank you for the job you're doing for me. Business is cyclical, you're up one month and then down the next.

This too shall pass...

Purdie...You definitely picked the right color of stain for them...No doubt!! Make sure you put a nice pic in the gallery for all to see!!

JC...Cool!! That`s good you have more work ahead of you...Like I said before, you certainly have talent and what better way to express your ability is to restore/refinish vintage drums!!

I, like many other members here, really dig these natural wood shells...

Kudos to both of you!!

Cheers

:D Yes indeed!

Hey Eric... these are the clubbies you sold to me! I opted to veneer the shells instead of wrapping, or painting them. I'm very happy with the drums and with the choice to go 'au natural'.

Still looking for legs for the floor tom!

Really nice work. Q-- were there any holes to fill before adding the veneer? What method?

Thanks

I filled in some small holes after the veneer was in place using Durhams rock hard putty. John is painting the insides of the shells so the putty was good enough. Thanks!

What is the name of the level sealer? can it be brushed on? and can you use a water based finish over it?

It is called level sealer, made by M.L. Campbell. It is a post cat sealer, designed for spray application only. And you would top it with a post cat top coat. Im in the cabinet trade and these are the products (one of many) I use on my cabinets. They come from my supplier, Oharco Distributing, not Home depot or any hardware store. Sorry, I was not trying to turn everyone on to a product, I just want to explain how these shells come out so smooth. But thanks for asking.

Thank you!
