Snare stands for me... I would never use a clipper on this kit. Like you said, too much weight bouncing around on the hoop.Virgin is fine and what I had intended anyway. I just thought somebody might make a convincing argument for using the rail. Didn't happen! lolJohn

Only one thought I can not get out of my head on the addition of the rail mount. In my younger days it was a mission to never leave one a virgin! Can I say that here?Of course if you are not going to use the mount don't install it!

I can not get used to not having a ride tom on top of the bass drum. I can never seem to get around the toms the way I want when it's too far left. I play a kit at church (we all share the house kit) and it's set up that way and I end up filling mostly on the snare as a result. Of course, the bass drum is massive so you can't creep the tom over like you could on a smaller bass drum. To each his own.

Every player sets their drums up the way they are most comfortable or ergonomic. My rack tom sitting in a snare stand is 'roughly' in the exact same position a rail would put it. The advantage to using a low snare basket is I can place the tom precisely where I want it. I always set up my kits the same way every time. For me, it is the most comfortable and body-friendly set up there is. It's a very straight-forward classic kind of set-up.

Here is a view of my set-up from behind the kit. As you can see, all drums are well within reach and it isn't that far from tom to tom. All depends on how you set them up.

Glenn - I honestly don't think I'd be able to tell the difference in them if they were played side by side. Although I've never done that, played them side by side, I imagine you'd be hard put to 'hear' much difference in the sound.

Good to know John thanks. I've been looking for a early RK shell project and had wondered about the 3 ply's and how they sound next to the maple. Cool1

I'm reviving this thread just long enough to show you guys the finished snare drum! Like the rest of the kit, the drum is killer and looks spanking new. So, without further ado... drum roll please!

Enjoy the pix, thanks again, Jeff! Excellent job on these. I've been playing them exclusively since I got them and enjoying every minute of it.
