Oh you can bet on it! That photo is going to be the cherry on this thread sundae! That photo (when he's presented with the kit,) is the entire point of the exercise.

It increases the fun factor by ten for me to have you guys comment and have input. I get to share it. Thanks all for kind words... be patient, stay tuned!

Unless my daughter-in-law let the cat out of the bag, which I seriously doubt, he hasn't got clue one about what is coming his way. :p

Here is a recent photo of my son James and my grandson (also James.) This is the little monkey I'm making the drums for. He's some good looking kid isn't he? He's going to be a lady killer shortly, if not already! lol

Thanks, Jeff. I do have a lot to be proud of in terms of how my own children turned out and now my four grandkids. I shouldn't call my kids children anymore, my daughter just turned 40 and my son is 37. Talk about feeling old!

Stay tuned... more to come.

From Purdie Shuffle

Jeff - I'm just waiting for some much needed and long expected funds to arrive so I can buy the wrap and the pies for the kit. Shouldn't be more than a week or two now.Re: Going to the P.O. on a national holiday... I've done it on more than one occasion. Case in point, on one particular Monday (that turned out to be a Sunday) I showed up at the P.O. with several packages to ship. Bev had a good laugh at my expense when I got home. I've heard every possible variation of; 'you don't even know what day it is,' gag that you can think of.What gets me mad is... it's true! lolJohn-Well-known Hippie Burn-out. Dead brain cells brought to you by; the good folks at THC labs!

Gary,

Had to respond to the statement "You don't even know what day it is"...get a load of THIS ONE! I am a service technician by day, which has given me the opportunity to see the world, get paid, and on their dime...constantly I am flying here or there, and keep it on my calendar on my computer (don't want to miss a flight)! Well, this other technician here didn't show up for work one day. We wondered what had happened. He showed up at noon...and stated he went to the airport, which was over an hour away. He didn't HAVE a flight that day....it was last month, and forgot to turn his ANTIQUE calendar over to the next month.....so not being able to know what DAY it is, has nothing to compare to as a MONTH! HAHA

Time for a little update! Peeps have been asking about progress, so... here it is. The drums are all stripped down to bare shells. I have started polishing the hardware and I have refurbished/customized a vintage Speed King that Mike L gave me for James' kit. I will be ordering the wrap next week (finally!) And I hope to have the kit finished in about two weeks time.

Here's a couple of shots of the 'customized' Speed King. I took it apart, cleaned it inside and out, (the pedal was frozen/gummed-up inside when I got it,) and I painted the post part Hunter Green and the footboard with a 'metal-finish' spray paint. It'll match the green glass kit! I think it came out really cool. Not a squeak in ear-shot and it operates smooth as silk. Thanks, Mike! Bet you don't recognize it any more.

More pix later as the kit starts to come together.

John
