Hmmm, I can think of 12 kits that I've seen photos of, and have 12x18 bass drums:4 that I've had: 70's SBP, 70's WMP, 60's Natural Maple, 60's Blue Sparkle2 of Olugs', both red sparkle1 70's Natural Mahogany, belongs to Britt1 70's WMP 6 ply, belongs to Mario1 70's WMP, belongs to Pete1 70's Black Nitron, has had a few owners1 60's Mahogany on ebay (though this one has an added muffler on BD)1 60's Natural Maple, belongs to forum member Jamie, has Rogers spurs

Hey, Bill! I'm sorry. I didn't even register this post until just now!

I'm relinquishing my '67 contribution. I think it creates a double standard. I think that brings the count to ELEVEN!

More please!

okay, let's assume that we can find 30 Jazzettes to post in the VDG. That seems like an impossibility at this point, but let's just say we had 30 of them....

....Isn't it odd to anyone else that that is an extremely small number of currently-known examples, over a time span between 1966-2010? That just seems an incredibly small number, to me. Anyone else agree? I mean, after all, this IS Ludwig -THE biggest drum manufacturer of all times! You would think there should have been more than 30 kits show up in all that time.

Granted, the Jazzette was only offered for approx 14 years -and during a time when the style of music was changing drastically in favor of large drums. The Jazzette couldn't have ever really been a big seller for Ludwig, by my estimation.

And granted, interwebs ;) didn't even exist (in a practical sense) until like 20 years ago or so. The vintage drum collecting world is even younger than that. But, still....Even if we have documented 30 of them (which, of course, we aren't even close to -yet), that's still a small, small number!

It's just a discussion about drums for a drum discussion forum, my friend. That's all. I'm interested in this subject.

I would take your bet. How much do you want to wager that you can find 200 legitimate vintage (1966-1980) Jazzette kits out there? I'll bet you any amount that you can't -ANY amount! :Santa: Shake on it?Yes Sir

Can I find them all....no way! But, the fact that we only think 8 are known of amazes me. I've seen many in the last year(And sometimes seeing is not believing) All I know is I'm almost positive there are tons of these sets waiting to be discovered in the garage or attic at someones house. Only a handful of them will get into the hands of collectors and guys like us. There for you can't find a whole bunch of them on the internet. It seems like simple reasoning to me.Mind Blowi

next one I see for under $400 I will pick up...how about that.:)

No, my friend. You misunderstand my quest. I want to determine (with the help of any willing people) just how many Jazzette kits are able to be documented for use in the VDG Jazzette section. At the start of this thread, I had only counted eight such kits listed in the VDG. I thought it was a low number and that there MUST be more examples out there. Thus, the thread.

I felt that, in order to do that properly, I needed to create some kind of parameters to follow when determining just what a Jazzette kit really is -otherwise, we would get inundated with "cousin Jeb's old marching drum that he glued some shelf paper to and drove a couple of nails through for the "spike" spurs ;). Maybe I should have just included ANYTHING with an 18" drum shell for a bass drum to be a Jazzette. But, instead, I decided to be a little more specific!

In fact, I am being SO specific, that I even relinquished one of my own so-called 'Jazzette' kits from the process.

Now, all I want to do is to collect data for the VDG. As it stands, only eight kits are listed in that section.

Put the word out! Let's get those ghost Jazzette kits to materialize! WOOOOooOOOoooooOOoooooo ghosts! scary!Laughing H

As far as 200 Jazzettes out there....No way to prove/disprove it. but I, personally, doubt it. I think there may be less than 50 in existence on the entire planet! And I feel generous to say 50, at that! But, that's the problem with speculation. One guy speculates on the high side and the other guy speculates too low. Somewhere there is a middle ground. How can we determine that?

All I want is to get some more documented to enrich the VDG website -which I love! Kiss
