Hey, everyone, it's another frickin' new guy. My name's Lon, I've been playing vintage drums since I first started playing in my first band in '81. I've always played a 4 peice red sparkle kit, orphan drums have come and gone. What I've ended up with is a '66 jazz fest, an '81 13x9 6 ply B/O, a 1970 3 ply 16x16, and a '79 6 ply 24x14. Since it's a little bit of everything, I call it my Frankenstein kit. Ever notice how stage lights love sparkle kits? The Band

well i guess this is the closest thing to the intro forum i will find so without further adoo......(drumroll)............Hi everyone! great to be part of this positive, informative collection of drum lovers from around the globe.

and by the way, i am currently rockin an 88 Ludwig 5 piece kit with gold badges, 6ply maple shells and they sound great! my only complaint is that the lugs on the snare are breaking, about two at a time. they are breaking where they are screwed to the shell, i guess they kinda got a little cheap in the 80's. i have been replacing them with whatever older than 1980 lugs i can find so some are off of Acrolite's amdthers? i need three more before they are good to go. I would really like to add a Supraphonic to my collection as well!

I am playing in a ten piece funk band, doing the occasional improve gig and learning a random array of covers with some good friends. i love afro-beat, rock, "world" music, jazz and mostly older music. life is good!

Hello all !

First post here, sad day.

Joe Morello is dead. So before introducing my little person, a tribute to The Man, The drummer

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwXjgti7GyY[/ame]

RIP Mr Morello Thanks again & again.

I'm a French... drummer (Yes ! not a guitarist, no !) of half a century old, involved in drums since my early age of 6.

Please excuse my poor english "charabia", I'll do my very best to get understood here.

Mostly fond of jazz, fusion, Jazzrock, acidjazz, soul R&B funk etc. and all sorts of world/acoustic/contemporary I also play some percussions.

I play mainly 3 kits amongst all those I have (several... I mean... too much !)

in short,

- a 1960 Ludwig 3 ply jazzette pink champagne sparkle keystone bdg all original

(12/14/16 BD18 with a Lud. Pioneer early brass snare 1933 / Bosphorus jadis and old Istanbul cymbals)

- a Rogers Holyday (mostly Cleveland period) double bass "Louis bellson style" in WMP color

(2x22, 12/13 FT16/18 and snare Lud B/O pointy bdg LM411 14x6,5 Super Sensitive Ludalloy - all DW 9000 serie Hardware - Complete Giant Beat Paiste serie cymbals etc.)

- my custom Noble & Cooley 10/12/13/14/15/16/22 on a Drumframe rack

with full serie of K Hybrid cymbals and a Craviotto One Ply Custom Shop maple snare - DW 9000/9002 hardware etc.

I collect old drums and hardware, beeing webmaster of Vintage Drummin' site and founder of an association organizing events here with vintage drums

http://www.vintagedrummin.com/

Last but not least, I am the administrator of La Drummerie, supposed to be the biggest Francophone forum about drums, since 2005.

my nickname overthere is : "Syrian"

http://www.ladrummerie.com/

We have a big "Vintage" section (not visible if not member) and also have created an "English Speaking" section.

Please feel free to join if you'd like to, it will be a pleasure. Some of our members would greatly appreciate to ask questions to US connoisseurs... (I know... !)

If you encounter any problem with inscription or even, please MP here or email me (remember I'm French, speak slow-ly ! ;)

Well, that's all for now Folks !

Have fun, long life to VDF

Speak soon, RĂ©mi !

Howdy all,

Been lurking about for years...figured I'd get on board and get connected.

I've been playing drums since I was about 15 years old when my sister bought me a MIJ black diamond pearl set for my birthday. My love of music started much earlier with a total fascination and love affair with listening to FM radio. I grew up in Philly in the late sixties and got an earful of R&B, soul, and of course rock and roll and I remember sitting on the living room floor watching The Beatles on Ed Sullivan's show in February of '64 like it was yesterday. I also got a great classical education being a member of The Philadelphia All City Boys Choir in 1966. I played cymbals and snare drum in the high school band, but get kicked out for cutting school to go horse back riding or swimming down the Jersey shore, but I still performed and kept up my own studies with private lessons. I learned to read and play the rudiments, listened to WMMR under the covers at night, and dreamed of a large set of Butcher block Ludwigs with a Ghost pedal and a sizzle cymbal and went to my friend Jimmy's house after school to play his 1972 bright orange Rogers five piece while The Allman Brothers played over and over and over again. I think my ears are still ringing from some of those sessions.

I've got lots of drum stories and gigs that I've attended to talk about, and a basement filled with parts and odds and ends to trade or sell in the coming weeks.

Let's talk... life is short... glad to be here.

Yours truly,

Glen

Hello,

Old war horse here. Still have some vintage drums, Rogers to be exact. No longer working, dupuytrens contracture and arthritis took care of that. Still have enough left to drum out what ever I want on my own and selected friends recordings. Had hoped to manage one last tour but the offers stopped coming.

Anyway came here to answer a forum question that I saw while looking for something related. Will drop by once in a while and perhaps will ask for sources on a couple of items.

humbly,

mb

Hello there forum,

My name is Andrew and this is my introduction. I am 20 years old and I have some drums, many of which could drink before I was born.

I started collecting vintage drums with a 1979/1980 Ludwig Supraphonic snare that I got when I was around 14 or 15. It's been my workhorse for the past 5 years, going on tours and shows and recording sessions with me. Recently, I have begun scouring craigslist for cool snares for under $100 and have acquired a '74 Premier Hi-Fi (I think), a '60s Rogers Powertone, and a new Pearl Masters custom snare drum (I know, it's not vintage, but it still sounds rad). I also have a '65 Ludwig 3-piece (13/16/22) that I picked up, also on craigslist. I'm afraid that I am developing a dependence on craigslist, and honestly I'm a little worried that spending a significant time on this forum will turn me into a full-blown vintage drum addict. However, I am willing to take that risk because vintage drums are cool.

I'm including some pictures, and I'll be posting some questions about some of my drums which need a little fixin', but I thought I'd introduce myself first.

Thanks for reading

-Andrew
