Where is introduction part of forum?

Ok I guess this would be the best place to start. I'm llabarge. I've been playing a while and I just got my Ludwigs ( 1973 I think) back in shape to gig with. They still need some work. I need to do something about the badge, It's one of those olive/blue ones and it's about half gone. When I have some time I'll post some pictures.

Well met!

Hey guys... im new to the Forum and would just like to say im glad I found this place. I recently purchased what looks to be a '68 Pearl with a Galaxy wrap finish. I was wondering if anyone had any info on where this was built and whether or not this is a decent vintage kit to get me into vintage drums. Thanks!

Keep on Pl

Hello all!

New member and the proud owner of a 70's era (I guess) 5 piece Slingerland. I had (and regretfully let go) an 80's-ish 5 piece Tama Imperialstar. Getting another set has been in the back of my mind for a long time. I had been poking around my local Craig's list and there are plenty of great starter sets.

A friend called and said a co-worker of his was looking to get rid of some drums and wanted to find a good (percussion loving) home versus throwing them away.

I picked them up last Saturday and am excited about their restoration. I have been reading here a little and look forward to getting to know the regulars here.

The kit has 5 drums (bass, snare, 2 bass mounted toms, and a floor tom). They are missing the bottom hoops as the owner preferred them off (including the front bass hoop). I have most if not all of the original tension rods & bass claws. Original zildjian cymbals and stands (22" ride & hi-hats). He also gave me a small 60's zildjian crash I believe. Also original bass pedal. Pics to follow.

Will be looking for replacement hoop advice, as well as which direction to take on the restoration. Also looking forward to pinning down the exact details of what kit I have.

Hello fellow drummers & collectors. I started on my Dad's two-piece kit when in High School, a 26" Pioneer bass (calf heads, circa 1930's) and Slingerland chrome snare, and I was hooked! The bass drum had this Ludwig brand table that was made to be mounted directly on top of the BD, so the drummer could put his sticks, drinks and whatever on it. There are holes at the edge that simple cymbal stands can go in for little 10" splash cymbals, and other holes for cowbell mounts. My Dad acquired it in 1939 I believe. Hopefully I can attach a picture. It's really cool, and I use it when I play in a duo at patio parties and that kind of gig. it doesn't kill the bass sound too badly, maybe a little. The original cymbals were a Kasson thin (only a little crack, I didn't do it !) and an atrocious sounding Ludwig thick Ludwig 10" with big metal jingle-like things. Just the worst sound you ever heard! It stays on the wall in my music room!

I was hoping that someone "out there" might be familiar with this table thing, and could fill in some history on it.

My latest hot-rodded kit is 70's Ludwig toms (some jerk stole the badges long ago) but I went from the original 20x14" bass drum (lame !!) to a Keller shell 22 x 20", still a "virgin" which now has all of the shiny ludwig hardware.

Five-piece silver sparkle, I love that finish. This is my latest bigger-stage kit.

My next project is to paint the B.D., floor and ride tom of my "jungle Kit" in 3 different tropical colours. Does anyone remember the Vistalite "JellyBean" kit, where all of the (many) toms were all different colours? That was partly my inspiration. Also the colours on the Mentos Fruit brand of candy!

Anyways, I think this forum is pretty cool; Rock On, as we "vintage" players say!

Greetings. I too have stumbled on the faux-introductory introduction section. Great. Now I can go about the intended business.

I am a long time Ludwig fan. I have a Ludwig Classic set cobbled together similar to the John Bonham set up in natural mahogany. I love Ludwig. I have played off and on for over 30+ years. Somehow I went from being a symphonic high school drummer, to a rock singer and guitar player and back. Wild.

I love the physicality of the drum set, the expression and application of time and dynamics in a sort of cerebral atheletism, it's more open and natural than electrified guitars ... even though that can be immensely cool.

But , it's fantastic to be here and I hope I can contribute something but mostly I expect I will be gleaning a vast wealth of knowledge that is all things drum. What a fantastic resource. Thanks!

Hello there,

I was a drummer back in college, then two years ago, I started up again. This time around I've been playing an electronic kit. It's been good for pracitcing but I've always been interested in vintage gear and I've been scanning the galleries with interest.

Hi all! I'm dif_drummer from New York. Some of you may know me from eBay. I'm an avid Ludwig drummer, play all forms of modern music, and have 6 kits and 46 snare drums, at last count (all Ludwig)! The kits are:

Mod Orange - b/o badge - 22/13/16

Mod Orange - b/o badge - 12x18/12/16 (that's no typo on the bd size!)

Mod Orange - SE Elements Retro series, 2009 - 20/12/14x14/14x16 with

both 5 1/2 and 61/2 m.o. snares

Champagne sparkle '62 KB Downbeat kit 20/12/14, with 4x14 Downbeat snare

Champagne sparkle KB "two up - two down kit - 20/12/13/16/16

Purple Sparkle - 20/12/14X15 floor

Snare wise, I have 12 Black Beauties (including 3 engraved) both Titaniums (5.5, 6.5) 6 Champ. sparkle snares, 4 bronze snares, etc.

My catalog collection goes from the 1912 catalog originally owned by the Ludwig family up to the current items (which seem to be handed out with an eye dropper!) In between, I have pretty much most of the "full book" catalogs, apendices (like the 67a/67b/67c/67d brochures) price lists, brochures, flyers, dealer promotions, notices, endorser photos, etc. I have the complete set of the 60s-70s Ludwig Drummers, and a portion of the '20s - '40's Ludwig Drummers. One day I'm gonna inventory them all....!

I head up a haz-mat response team in NYC for a government agency. I've been doing that work for 32+ years now, and enjoy it, despite all the current government bashing going on. I get to help people in bad situations, and truly enjoy being a civil servant, serving and helping the public.

Hope to hear back from folks. I have a large duplicates collection of Ludwig literature, and once I figure out how to sell items on ebay instead of just buying them, I'll sell them off! Bye for now! - dif_drummer

Well, I am 64 and could not find the introduction part either. Makes me wonder how up-to-date this forum is going to be. Or, are we all just old?
