Us too Jim. I shouldn't have even bothered to shovel yesterday. Both doors have 3' solid snow up to them. I need to take the storm door glass out to get outside. Drifts are 6-8' in places.

Yep. The worst drifts are exactly where I need to shovel of course...

I think another two hours shoveling will get the rest of the driveway clear.

Putting those Big R stickers inside the drums would be ok, but putting them on the outside - on top of that beautiful finish - would be wrong.

I've been working on Rogers drums for a long time, and I have no use for those stickers at all. The guys at CBS decided they wanted the drums identifiable from across the room, and they came up with that idea in 1976 when they switched to the Memriloc hardware.

I've rewrapped a couple of Big R kits for gigging, and I didn't use those badges. I used some very early Rogers badges, the 'Eagle' badge instead. These are brass ovals that I polished and lacquered. The drums are still all Rogers, but improved.

If you want badges on those drums, I would use script badges. But, I agree that putting nails thru that beautiful veneer doesn't really make sense. You could glue the badges on I suppose.

Remember, they are real Rogers drums, and putting any type of Rogers badge on them would be ok. But I wouldn't put one on the clone snare, nobody would see it back there anyway.

These 2 kits are both rewrapped XP8 kits that I use for gigs. If you look for them you can see the oval 'Eagle' badges that Rogers used until 1959-60 or so.

When building a hot rod, many parts from different eras can be used to make the car a true 'custom' that reflects the builders taste. When doing a job like that, on a car or a drumkit, there is no right way or wrong way: the builder has changed them, and it's his call on whether to make one more change.

DanC, thanks for your input. Im glad to hear from someone like you that it would OK to leave the big r bagdes off. I do like the oval ones that you have on your red kit, very nice job on those by the way. The cost is becoming a factor here so purchasing six or seven badges is not in the budget. I still need heads for all the drums. I will most likely place the big r badges inside of the shells and just put the original groments back in without any badge.

There's NOTHING wrong with wanting something vintage and original to collect and play... but I agree whole-heartedly that there is room for "custom" restoration work as well! Very, very good example.

Well , glad to hear you guys are in favore of my desicion to keep the badges off. Im also happy that my little snare drum project isnt breaking any rules also. I just knew I would have enough veneer to do the four piece kit, the two concert toms and a snare. And I think having a kit with a matching snare is great. I do like the chrome snares but when they all match its far out man!

Plastic ones are usually white and more expensive. They sell em in stationary at walmart.
