Just sent that photo to Gary an hour or two ago... it's from my June 1997 edition of Beatles Monthly.

I used the max resolution of my scanner but unfortunately my copy is a little worn (although not sure a pristine copy would show that much more detail).

Hope it helps, although suspect it might not be quite good enough quality to establish the stamp date.

Welcome to the forum and thanks for initially sending this picture to Gary! I am also interested in where on the cymbal the stamp is located, even after reviewing the zildjian stamp timeline. Does this stamp on ringo's hi hat seem further away from the edge than normal?

Not really. I have a 19" trans stamp that has the trademark located only about 1-1/2" away from the bell. In fact it's located much nearer from the edge than from the bell itself. Keltner once saw Ringo's cymbals and described the trademarks as looking like the trademarks were partially worn away through much playing as he described it.

But its actually pretty hard if not impossible to wear off a trademark simply by stick wear alone. His description could also be interpreted simply as the way the trademark generally appears on any typical transitional stamp.

I myself favor the trans stamp hypothesis for both his hi-hats as well as his 18". His 20" A (post Ed Sullivan) was purchased in 1964 during that Beatles tour at Manny's, and appears to me to be of late 50's, or no later than early 1960's vintage based on the lathing characteristics that can be seen on the bottom of that cymbal as shown in the Beatles Gear book.

Whoops. Got confused there for a minute. I just had an 8 year old flashback.

It was his wife's..colder then they thought that day.....

They had been in the hotel swimming pool just prior to this picture being taken. They had to be coaxed out to rehearse for the Ed Sullivan Miami show. Those jackets are Terry cloth. It is quite cold inside the Hotel as compared to outside temps in the Florida summer.

In a collection of Beatles photo's in a book by Dezo Hoffman there are several photos that were taken during this rehearsal scene, making it easily verifiable.
