ringos beatle cymbals

Will try to shoot and post some pics later - but will share this for now.

I would like to add, though - that think about something. This pic where John is on the kit - no telling where it was shot or when or what circumstances, etc. Perhaps these were not Ringo's cymbals? Perhaps he did not have his with him and borrowed these from someone? A million reasons why it is possible that these HHs are not Ringo's. I don't know - just being devil's advocate. Saw the pic and had to make the observation.

Also - these Nickel-Silver MAC hats of mine - were identical in most every way - sold one to a close friend to use as a top. Then, also have a pair of the yellow ones (I think B8) - which are identical to these except the difference in metal composition. I use the yellow top with - of all things a Pearl CX-500 bottom. It seems to be the best sounding of all that I have - brightens it up and makes even more washy/wet.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I understand the fact that you would like to replicate Ringo's sound as much as possible, but as an occasional drum tech for a friend's Beatles tribute band , i would say that the crowd will never notice the difference, unless they're a die hard Ringo fan, or drum fanatic.. I can tell you with certainty that almost any A Zildjians will do just fine, as long as they're in those sizes..With today's sound system gear, you won't hear vintage sounding cymbals..You will hear cymbals, period.. In order to replicate Ringo's sound you would have to vintage gear which would include vintage mics, speakers, and soundboard, of which most venues will NOT have.. So don't worry about it.. If you choose to do it for yourself , then by all means.. Another thing to consider is how to play like Ringo did, and even what sticks he used.. The drummer in my buddy's tribute band took it upon himself to learn how to play that swing style hi-hat movement the way he did, which he says was pretty difficult, and even that didn't make much of a difference..But if you're concerned with not having an authentic Ringo sound, i'm afraid it's worrying for nothing, as that would be close to impossible to do..

Fair point, but part of the fun of it is trying to find out this information and trying to match his set up right down to the hi hat clutch and I think it does make a difference and not just aesthetically (which is important to some guys), but sonically too. You're going to hear the difference between a set of 15" vintage A's like Ringo's and, let's say a pair of 14" or 13" of some other brand. Of course the average person who just walks in off the street to listen to some Beatles covers isn't going to care or know, but as drummers we try to please our own ear first and if others like it too then that's just a bonus. For some Ringo guys out there having the replica kit is a big deal. I know that if I were in a Beatles covers band I'd be trying to get my hands on the same type cymbals he used. It's the same for the John Bonham guys, they all want their Supraphonics and Giant Beats. It's part of the show.

It would be awesome if Richard Starkey (aka Ringo Starr) found this thread and chimed in. I would if he would be able to answer some of the questions floating around.

Since I have nothing else to do with my time, I was browsing ebay and came across this KRUT Special that seems to be more hand hammered and probably sounds better than some of the other Kruts I have seen. It reminds me, down to the lathing lines, of this cymbal above that was probably used on Please Please Me. To the naked eye, what do you guys think? This krut posted is an 18" and is not even 1200grams, which seems thinner than what I hear atleast on Please Please Me but who knows?? Maybe BEC could mention it to Ringo if Ringo isn't too far above Bun's pay grade :)

Found it!!
