Hi Mike,

Good deal! I have a Crown badge that I found at a yard sale missing it's drum. The badge is mint, and since the first kit I had was a Crown (gift from my parents from about 1965) I put it in a shadow box and hung it on the wall in my office. I didn't even know there were two badges for Crown.

BTW: That snare is back amongst the living now, sounding like a good Crown snare ought to (blech) thanks to the strainer parts. Thanks!

I just added the Saturn and the Astro badge to the page.

I need to start organizing which names are associated with Pearl and which are associated with Tama.

The Pearl web site used to have a list of 15 names at one time, but that history was removed from the web site.

There's a lot of info about the various badge names on this thread on the DFO site.

Well, the problem is not identifying, but knowing when they died, because St Louis Music was the distributor for many of the names. Apollo, Stewart, etc. And then the guy in LA (Mikey's friend), and of course the Brooklyn Music guys (ZimGar, BlackJack) as well, so it comes to what Blake found quite by accident, that some went from Star to Pearl as Star was closing up and beginning to build under the guise of Hoshino, using much lower quality parts. Pearl got itself into the position of having to open another plant to keep up with the volume, man so much was happening, the technology boom, and people getting more education, and better jobs, so they moved lower end production to Taiwan, and.....wow, it is a lot, I will try to take some time and lay it all out in a historical account as best I can figure, and then let Blake and Eric look it iover.

A historical timeline is what we need to bring this all in perspective. Thanks for the link to DFO. That is the basic principle I'm going after, but on a much larger scale.

Thanks for all of the help so far.

I added a section for the Star drum hardware section since that is the most available catalogs I have. I do have 4 or 5 other Japanese drum catalogs and I need to dissect them for the Pearl reference.

Star Parts Sections

Please clarify any dates or issues. I did notice that the early Star strainer looks exactly like a Rogers Orchestra Strainer, which also looks like the first generation Pearl strainers with the 4 bolt mounting.

Any updates appreciated.
