1965 Ludwig Super Classic BDP Project

John,

Wow, I think I have a lifetime supply of Novus one and two. I didn't ask or expect Precision Drum to clean. They are going to inspect any seam issues and I also asked them to inspect the reinforcing rings. I am getting excited to get them back so I can finish this project. Precision Drum has been good to work with and very responsive. I live in Northern Virginia so I shipped them up. If I had more time I would have liked to have driven them up.

This is a player's kit and I want to play it soon.

Thanks for your input and interest in my project.

Next will be polishing my 1970 Supraphonic.

I guess I'll use the Novus to polish all of our head lights O:-)

I'm just going by past experience with them. Some years ago I did the same thing you're doing, I sent in a set of shells for edge work. When I got them back, the shells had been cleaned, polished and covered in protective clear plastic for shipping. I hope they do the same for you. Tremendous labor saver and you'll be playing your drums just hours after you get them back. Fingers crossed...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Looks like my shells are shipping from Precision Drum today so I may have them by the end of the week. Wahoo!

I spoke with George there today and I will be doing the Novus project. He was not familiar with it but was interested to learn about it since he gets requests for polishing wraps.

I need to find 2 interior tone control mufflers. P4066. I have some on watch at eBay.

I just read this.

"Internal Felt:

I usually leave it alone, if the lug does not have internal felt then you can pack it with a cotton ball (if that's all you have) or go get some heavy felt at the fabric store. Cut it in little rectangles so that it wraps around the spring"

Wondering if I need to wrap the lug springs with felt. Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

I always wrap the springs with regular felt I buy at a fabric store for about $1/sq. ft...

My lesson learned is when I didn`t do this, was finding the vibrating spring on a bass drum after I put it back together...Of course, it was the last lug I checked, so, the whole drum basically had to be taken apart and then put back together...So much time wasted...

So, my recommendation would be to install felt...

Cheers

Grantro,

Thanks for the feedback. I will think about putting felt in the lugs. Makes sense.

I got the shells back Wednesday. I order some new internal mufflers and realized I may have made a mistake with plugging 2 holes on the 8x12 tom. I asked George to plug two holes since it had holes for two mufflers on the top. The muffler that came with the drum was above the badge and I told George to plug the ones on the opposite side of the drum. I think the holes over the badge were added to accommodate a different muffler and I should have had them plugged. Now I have to decide if I have the skill to unplug the 2 holes that I just had George plug so I can use an original Ludwig muffler. Any suggestions are appreciated. I will send some pictures of both sets of holes.

Here is a progress update. I hope I did not mess up the 8x12. These internal mufflers are confusing. There must be a model that fits inside the larger hole on the drum.

Here are the next two photos. I used the Novus 2 twice on the 8x12 and followed up with the Novus 1. It does a nice job. There is a picture of the 8x12 before I buffed out the Novus 2. I will work on the 9x13 tomorrow since I am now a man of leisure.

I also have to figure out what drum heads to put on these drums as well.
