Tama Swingstar - Restoration Project

Loading...

Great job on the snare! I've found that many drums that would be dismissed as too far gone are quite restorable. Takes awhile and may have to try new methods to get them making pleasant drum sounds again. For me that is where the fun is.

Only piece I need to complete a 82 red badge Swingstar kit is the snare. How does it sound? COS correct?

Thanks!

Creighton

Nothing special here but I like them.

Hello Creighton. Thank you for your comments during this restoration. It was good to have you arround here. This is a chrome over steel (COS) snare. Actually, I didn't try it out live because the throw off has some issues. The shell itself is ok. Anyway, I think I will sell this entire kit. I have other kits I bought and can't keep them all:

[LIST]

[*]Late 60's Ludwig Superclassic in WMP finish

[*]Late 70's Tama Superstar, with reinforcement hoops (22/12/13/16)

[*]Ludwig vistalite in Pattern C (24/13/14). Floor toms are missing.

[*]60's Yamaha D20 in Golden Dragon finish (pretty bad condition)

[*]And some snares :)

Hello. Today I assembled all the drums and noticed the tomtom badges are faced to the player, instead of the audience.

Are they mounted correctly? Is this a lefty kit?

Note: the remo head logos are aligned with the badges

They are mounted correctly. And as far as I'm aware, aside the drums with rail mounts which were specific to right or lefty players, kits with the double mount are either. I don't think they changed the badge placement on the toms. My Tama toms are the same way.

The kit looks amazing by the way. You did a fantastic job!

Thanks Jay. I was thinking they changed the badge placement in special orders, for lefty players.

It is possible they may have. I can't say 100% one way or the other. But from all the toms I have & have seen they all had this silly feature. Then again too, some of the kits back then did have two badges.

Toms in the 70's and probably early 80's had the badge opposite the mounting bracket, this is probably the case which would be the correct placement. No lefty or righty kits that I'm aware of with double tom mounts.

The badges face inward on more drum kits than I ever realized

I mistakenly thought, as I found my first few set that way

that they were left handed set ups

I have four 80's era Tama kits

All are different models and all the badges on the toms face inward
