Tama Swingstar - Restoration Project

Loading...

@davezedlee Right, but as you can see I enjoy what I'm doing and I like to always do the best I can. The details make a good looking kit (my opinion). I am restoring this kit slowly when I get free time to do it. I am not doing it regularly.

You can check the kit when I bought it on first pages of this thread. I am very happy with the final result, it is the reward of all the love I putted on this drums. Cheers.

The snare shell is already clean. My plan was put it another 24 hours in vinegar bath but due to my busy weekend it was two and half days! The chrome was weak at the bottom (humidity marks were visible) and it came off. You can see the copper layer in that spot. My bad...

Anyway, this snare was awful and now it is looking good considering its shape when I got it.

What do you think? Looking good?

Looks great!! Few coats of wax and good to go for another 40 years. Just an outstanding save on that kit. Thanks for the photos along the way. I'm sure many have learned from your efforts.

I used the vinegar to clean the hoops. The bottom hoop was bent but I fixed it. Check the results.

Fresh updates. All hardware is cleaned and polished. The snare is almost assembled but I did it by night and there wasn't decent light. I'll post more photos later.

Hardware before vinegar

Hardware after vinegar. Not polished, except lugs.

This was ugly to me. Details make a good restoration.
