Last Notes:

[LIST]

[*]The 12" tom will be finished as soon as possible (need to buy heads)

[*]I forgot to put the tom holder memory for the photos

[*]Is the tom holder bracket backwards? I assemble it like how it was before, with the wingnut on the front side. I think that makes sense having the wingnut closer to the drum player. I can change it anytime, just have to remove the head and flip it.

[*]I know some of you want to see the snare. It wasn't my priority. I will restore it in a near future.

[*]Curiosities: The cymbals in the picture are Planet Z, I sold them. The snare stand is a single braced Pearl, very nice by the way. I keep it and wil clean it someday. The hi-hat stand is a 90's Mapex and is already cleaned. I use it sometimes. The boom stand and drum pedal were sold. I got a Pearl P950 drum pedal with this kit.

I just read this whole thread today, fantastic job on this resto! What kind of tuning problems are you having with the floor tom? Btw, the tom holder is sitting the correct way.

Those look freakin' awesome! Looking forward to your other kits as well. It took a long time, but now you can enjoy your slick kit allthemore!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Some of you asked me to publish photos of the snare. As I promised, here they are. The snare is already disassembled and ready to be restored. There's lots of rust to clean.

My Swingstar snare had rust on the inside too.

Check out my thread about the restore here: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=53661

It contains some advice as to how to deal with that rust inside the rim. Take the time and treat it well. think about it - had it sat long enough, it would have rusted through - and the shell would be DONE / WORTHLESS if that were to happen. Notice that little hole there that the water drained out of before it got deeper in there. I believe that was drilled there for hanging purposes during manufacturing (chroming).

Looking forward to seeing how this snare comes out too! Great job so far on all the other stuff too! You really have knocked it out of the park with these!

How did you clean your bass drum rims without hurting the inlay? I have a set of almost identical rims I am trying to restore and I don't want to hurt the inlay wrap.

@PressRoll It was easy. I used painter tape to cover the inlay and protect it while I was cleaning. I did two full turns over the inlay and then used a knife to cut the tape excess (carefuly) close to inlay border.

After cleaning the chrome I removed the tape and did the same thing but reversed, I mean cover the chrome with tape and leave the inlay visible. Then I used the Novus 3/2/1 to polish the inlay, since it had some scratches and I wanted it shiny.

This is the only photo I have from that stage:
