I agree with Jonni. You made the right move in purchasing this kit Trevlak. Very rare indeed. Please keep us all informed & post some "clean" pics when they arrive. NICE FIND!!

Cheers.

I agree, thats going to turn out ok for you.Sometimes you have to stick your chin out and take a chance.I learned that in boxing. You cant always depend on the seller giving a rats ass if its clean and polished or not.He likely lives like that and has no desire to dazzle you.Take it or leave it attitude.Keep us posted.

What an idiot. For 30-45 minutes, and some better pix, he could easily have doubled his bids. hehehe...well, his ignorance and laziness garnered you a deal. And believe it or not, he probably found them in a barn and thought he might get 75 to 100 for them. Never in his wildest dreams, even with all the collectors telling him that he was going to get a huge amount, if only he would wipe them off and answer a few questions and 455 is way over his dream...crackhead...

Nice one Trev. I had a lazy bid on them earlier but I really don't need another kit right now. And the attitude just annoyed me.

I'm sure it'll be a good kit just needing some elbow grease.

You know, even if you find you don't like the sound of them after they are cleaned and lubed, you should be able to more than double your investment, and keep the snare. Or, buy another COS Star snare to go with it, the 8256 is easy to find and they sell for less than 50 because no one really knows what they have. I have one of those, and it sounds amazing! I just put a Fibershyn 3 on it and it mellowed it to a cool tone.

A few years ago I bought a King Beat snare that had a Tama serial Grommet badge on it, and a script "Star" logo engraved in the snare throwoff. Could be a similar transitional era as that one. They're nice snare drums, as long as all the parts are there. Similar to other parallel throwoff mechanisms (Ludwig Super Sensitive, Rogers Dyna Sonic, with the snare frame), if you have any missing parts then i will need them in order to work right. \

For me, though, the coolest part of this set (Keep them together, my 2cents) is that acrylic shell material. I'd be interested to know how the shells compare to Ludwig, Fibes or Zickos.. I once found a single tom drum that had turret-style lugs (Hayman?, Camco?) that was acrylic, but the shell was much thinner and flexible, even. May have been a made in Japan shell.

Bargain pure. Congrats!

I have exactly that KingBeat snare drum. If you disassemble it: take care of the small white plastic parts. Don't use too much energy, as they are precision made and may crack (and that will be a real problem afterwards: to catch spare parts for it).

If something doesn't work out easily, ask me, please!

You've got the same snare, cool. Is it COS? I'm hoping it's in one piece. It's getting picked up for me today, so I should be able to have a look at it through web cam and get a better idea of it's condition! I'll definitely ask if I need any advice, thanks!

Yep, COS. Don't worry about it's condition. There shall be no rust (or just very, very little), except for the hoops, maybe (but also not that much). Very heavy shell and chrome, built like a tank!

Absolutely weighs a ton! My COS without the the extra strainer is over 11lbs.
