Did anyone WEIGH Ringo's cymbals while they had the chance?

I emailed Ginger Bakers daughter,and told her that lots of people are doing that now..and since Ginger still has some of the same A's he used with Cream,that people would be very curious as to weights....

I'll bet 'Ol Ging has a scale around somewhere :-)

my guess is that folks who now know the types and weights of the cymbals are now busy buying those types and weights of cymbals lol (and I don't blame them, as once the descriptions start, i would imagine those items are going to get tougher and tougher to obtain)

we'll find out eventually . . . I'm very curious myself (and not just to see how close those folks who seemingly can to identify a cymbal by the shadow it casts in a blurry b&w photo were to the truth)

It still baffles me how he reached his toms on the maple kit. The way he has the double Tom stand in front of the bass drum and sideways would be awkward to me. I wonder why he did not use the Tom mount on the bass drum? Unless he only used the One Tom closest to the snare. It is angled in reach better. Will have to look at the rooftop footage again to see if he ever hit that 13" Tom. Yes, he was hitting it along with the floor Tom on " I've Got A Feeling".

The 20" crash/ride with rivets was a Super Zyn. In 1964 that was replaced with a Zildjian without any rivets.The 18" was perhaps not quite as thin as it sounds like when you hear him playing it. It had a slightly flatter than average profile (or bow) which on any cymbal produces effects expected from a thinner cymbal of average profile. Judging from pitch alone comparing his 18" with other 18" cymbals of my own of known weight, I estimate that this cymbal was somewhere in the mid 1400's. If you can find it, listen to the recording from the making of "A Day in the Life" where Paul's bass and Ringo's drums are isolated on one track. You can clearly hear this cymbal and it doesn't sound very thin there. The hi-hats were reported to be 14's or 15's from various sources. I tend to believe that they were 15" and from Jim Keltner's description of the trademark on those, were almost certainly trans stamps.In the quest for finding cymbals with similar qualities, all I can say is good luck. The 18" and hi-hats were old cymbals from the 50's. It'll be hard to with find cymbals that can replicate Ringo's or even come close. I found an 18" large stamp that's a bit lower pitched than his, but has character that comes real close to his. And it only took me 40 years to find it.

I would presume if he wants to recreate Ringo's sound, besides similar cymbals he'll need similar sticks.

Very true... there are some cool Ringo- esque sticks out there. Go check out Bopworks sticks.

It is a 19'' armand ride with 1 rivet. This was all recorded to tape, 1176 Compression in my big two story living room. I believe it was a mono AKG condenser overhead. It's the closest I have gotten, and that is one of my favorite cymbals every because of it.

I saw rivets in his left side 20 on the recent exhibit pics. am I not seeing rivets in this last pic though?
