In any case, it's either ignorance or deception to try and call that a Jazzette. And it's also peculiar how he "doesn't have the rest of the kit...as if there ever was a kit. Oh....and it's rewrapped, of course. And, of course, there's no date stamp inside the shell. I don't care what the price is....but it's deceptive to sell it as a Jazzette bass drum....because there will be someone out there who will buy it on that presumption.

Odd that it has the wrong spurs for a Jazzette bass, but they are doubly wrong as they aren't even the right type of gull wings for a 60's drum.

^^^LOL! That's right! I didn't even register that aspect until now. Thanks for pointing that out. It doesn't look like any holes were filled or changed, so that means it was probably a marching bass drum that someone converted with those parts.

I think the L-arm is also incorrect for that version of the rail consolette.

It's ALWAYS something with these "Jazzettes". Caveat Emptor!

I've got a '61 Galaxy bass drum and a '64 Sky Blue Pearl bass drum that are both original and have those old WFL style spurs. But....both are 22" Club Date bass drums. Don't recall those spurs on any 18s but maybe some are out there. My '64 bass drum is by far the latest that I have seen with those spurs.

Hey Mike. Thanks for offering that information. I thought those spurs were exclusive to earlier drums, but I guess anything is possible with Ludwig. However....with all the other suspicious things in addition to the gull wings, it's either a converted marcher...or, a custom order (which I HIGHLY doubt).

And just for those who might be reading this, who DON'T know....The Jazzette kit first appeared in the 1967 catalogue....so a '63 Jazzette is impossible.

I have a 5 digit Jazzette 4xxxx, and it doesn’t have those spurs.

With the rewrap situation in place, hard to say what it is. But.....even though the 12x18 Jazzette bass drum is first listed in the '67 catalog, the '63 Supplement catalog introduced the 12x18 Gold Coast bass drum. So the shells were out there early enough.

I agree with Mike, the catalog version may not have been available until 1966ish (the catalogs usually came out on the year before their cover date) but that bass drum size was available earlier and certainly the concept of a drum set in those sizes was out there. Someone could have special ordered a 12/14/18 set with a 12x18 bass drum prior to the catalog set, and maybe even requested those older spurs be installed (although the "why" behind making such a request escapes me). So it might be "real" but the rewrap aspect calls everything into question since various mods can be hidden under new wrap.
