Ludwig 1970s Black Panther "monster" .....

From Rob the drummer

That's just his everyday gigging setup. I had a Black Panther set as my first kit. I remember it fondly, even though I had to pry heads on and off two of the toms.

Yeah.....I also have to do that with a couple of mine.

From Rockdrum

Well, unlike a lot of you guys that own a lot of different vintage drum sets, I only own one. This one. It just keeps growing a little bit from time to time. Yeah, I am excited on my latest purchase.... Excited

Lol ! Wow, that thing is bigger than my first apartment. !

For the record, that isn't just one drum kit.. You can make several configurations with that monster ;). I'm assuming that you DON'T gig with it, because you'd probably have to show up a week before to set it up ! LOL ! Great job and future investment..

Wow just wow. I wouldn't know where to start. Looks like fun.

I love those panther kits. My first from teacher had a set when I was just a wee laddy.

Now is the moment that all of you at the Vintage Drum Forum laugh at me. I've been playing Ludwigs since 1982, and today I just got the very first LM402 snare I've ever owned.

Found a CL ad in my area for one of these kits. No photos, here is the description " Late '70s Ludwig in Black Panther wrap. Blue/Olive Rounded Badge, 14x22 BD, 9x13 tom, 10x14 tom, 16x16 floor tom with legs, double tom holder. 6ply shells. Not cosmetically perfect (some lifting at seams that can be glued down and some scratches) but the kit sounds great. Good for a second kit or practice kit. No snare or stands. $450 or BO. "

I messaged the seller to see if they are still available, if they are in decent shape with just a little cosmetic wear is $450 a good deal? Or should I see if I can get a photo or see them and make an offer based on that?

By the way - that is one sweet monster of a kit. Never really though about these drums until my first encounter with this thread. But those are some sweet Ludwigs.

That's a great deal for $450 !!! Those are the very tail end of the Black Panthers run, since they have rounded badges and 6-ply shells. All of mine are the earlier 3 ply shells with pointed badges. Get them, if you look them over and they're not all beat up or something. Depends on how bad the scratches and such they mentioned are, of course.
