Loading...

the BD spurs have rubber feet now.

Had a pair of this lying around and just had to drill a hole and fit that long hex tubular nut. It works!

Last night I was trying to reassemble that parallel snare strainer with those parts that I assumed belong there. I had this remember?

Luckily for me this sonor's strainers aren't as near as complicated as Premier's so all of the sudden something clicked in my head. I went to my parts box and got this just to try to get that strainer together.

connected the two long rods/crews with that nut just to have a long enough bar. On the left side I just screw a wing nut locking it with a regular nut. This will be my strainer lever.

and here's the final assembly

and it works! Now I just have to take another trip to hardware store to get some real parts instead of those improvised ones. Here's a close up on the mechanism.

still have to cut that long shaft and attach some kind of lever but it works!

Been attending those bass drum hoops. Someone repainted them a long time ago and got paint all over the inlay. Had to clean that and repaint!

The snare drum is also coming together. The strainer now works and thanks to some very helpful posts I find out I had (in the parts box that came with the kit) the correct sonor nuts for the strainer.

got some new washers for the lugs (not shown) and some new spring washers for the strainer (these go under those sonor nuts)

Bought some parts. Got the missing trods, one locking wedge, one spring (goes under the wedge) and a tom arm (from the 50's?).

The rods are in mint condition but those nylon washer have to go. The holder is in bad condition but it works. Got to get some more vinegar to clean that.

the BD hoops scars have been filled and sanded. Got to give it a new fresh coat of paint.

After lunch took care of that sonor mount on the tom. I need some metal plate to put on top of the locking wedge. Going through my parts box I found this hanger(?). Can't remember where I got that from... ikea???

got a pair of pliers and cut those "ears".

filed those sharp edges and after some hammering on an anvil they were flat.

just a couple of drops of super glue and the wedge is complete.

This sonor shells are completly "au naturel" on the inside. After decades of exposure the bass had this "funny" damp smell and the wood was dry and brittle. So I decided to wax those shell interiors. Now it's smooth to the touch and it looks much better. Still waiting for the paint on those BD hoops to dry but here's what I've got.

I'm getting there!

BD hoops are dry. Here "she" is:

All I'm missing now is a 13" hoop and four lugs. Can't wait!

Spend the rest of the day playing this baby. Here's a quick video. Image quality is poor (didn't had enough light) but sound is close. I manage to install some snare wires on the parallel strainer. Don't judge the 13" TT too hard as it's still single headed. I'm sure it will improve when completed.

Love it

this morning I finally re-threaded the BD tom holder and two of the FT leg brackets that were sticking a bit.

The tightening bolt couldn't go all the way in.

got the proper tools

same procedure on the FT

tom holder fixed!

and a minor detail that I never cared about before but on this set somehow makes all the difference.
