Don't, because nothing is determined yet. I thought it was a bolt too, but if you look above it at one o'clock, the same shadow in the wrap appears. Buddy could simply have tiny holes not filled yet and you wont see them in this. The badge scenario panned out so,

Here are some pictures of my beautiful 1968 BR 80N kit! They were just sitting in cases, so I sold it to a forum member over at DFO who plays them out with his big band. I couldn't be happier with the new owner!

I'm no expert on Buddy's drums by any means but the thing that seems out of place to me is that WMP doesn't look like the same style as used on all the Buddy sets I've seen (in video and in person). I understand that they have yellowed but that's just it. Buddy used drums wrapped in a bluish tinted version of WMP and I've never seen that variety yellow like these appear to be. If they do fade they tend to take on a slightly greenish tint.

Again not an expert, just throwing a personal observation out there, which may well be totally wrong, . It would be very cool if you could prove these were drums that Buddy used and I hope you can. I'm not sure how many Slingerland sets Buddy went through. I know he used a lot of different Ludwig sets over the time he was back with them in the mid/late 70s. He was notorious for giving drums away and expecting Ludwig to get another set to him, pronto. Perhaps Slingerland had more control over him and was able to limit that to a degree.

Nice to have some new blood on the comment scene, thanks for the observations and the pics, good looking set and interesting to see the Slingerland badge on the ride tom.

The color value of idrum's is similar to mine when i got them 1n '77. I should add, mine did not live in cases except for the last 15 years. When I sold my Premier set in '03, I kept the cases and put the Slingerlands in them. So one has to consider 35 years of sitting out in various configurations with various types of exposure.

Trash fire? Is that what I smelled??!! My apologies for not logging in on your query sooner .. but .. I play pretty much full time with a Frank Sinatra Show, and the summer season is when it cranks! Thus, it can be difficult to grab the time needed to flesh out a detailed reply/answer. With that said, let me also mention that it is almost always BEST to seek this type of information privately, rather than on any manner of public platforms/forums .. simply because .. and I mean NO DISRESPECT to anyone here!, you tend to get a lot of "armchair quarterbacks" , and whereas they all mean well!, it just further clouds what you are trying to make clearer ... if you know what I mean. So ...

... I have been contacted on your drums privately!, and I have authenticated a few of BR's sets for him in the past. They ALL turned out to be authentic! I gotta say one of them was Buddy's Fibes set, and being a Rogers and Fibes BR guy myself .. well .. that one was fun! I also did one of Buddy's WFL sets from his Harry James days, and that one was really neat too I gotta say ... and it was indeed, authentic. I will tell you this now though, after looking at your pics: Buddy certainly DID play a set of Slingerland's with the early gold/black Slingerland badge, as well as a few of his snare drums ... they also had that badge. And yes, I have pics in my personal collection. By the way, regarding the snare drum: The Ludwig snare you have with the set was NOT a snare drum Buddy ever used while with Slingerland. Don't know how that got thrown in with the mix, but it did. Otherwise ... clear interiors are another MAJOR indicator, and ... the moved ride cymbal mount on the bass drum is also ... CORRECT! Slingerland "usually" did NOT move those mounts for him ... it was done after the fact, and because of that "could be" a bit gnarly in the drilling. Anyway ...
