Jeff,..Are you gonna drill and put the snarebed on the snare shell ?

Yes, the shell is coming without edges and bed. Might not have been the smartest move but I like to try things. As far as I know the snare drum can have 45 degree edges like the tom's do, but please correct me if I am wrong here as this is a first for me.

I`ve never owned a wooden snare,..for obvious reasons the metal do but not double tapered, I really don`t know that one !!

My Montineri has 45 degree edges...

You can do them however you want. My Rogers Luxor has more rounded edges, but basically a 1/4" round over on the OD blended to a (probably- I haven't measured) 45 degree inside bevel...

Snare bed depth and width can have a big impact on the way the drum behaves (as well as the width of the snares chosen with relation to the snare bed width), so you might want to research that a bit before you cut them.

xP8 Head Selection.

Originally many were equiped with Remo Control Sound White or Black dot, with an Ambassador clear reso. I have heard of everything from Emperors, Pins, single ply coated, double coated, and others.

I have coated ambassadors on a set, J1 etched on my jazz size set, and on a project set I have, if I decide to keep them, I might go emporers on top to clear ambassadors on bottom.

For the XP10 snares I have, Coated Ambassadors over Ambassador snare side, or J1Etched batter with ambass snare side. The one single ply I dont like on a snare is the G1.

Thanks for the reply. I have been reading up a bit on the snare bed. Drums like the Dynasonic have something like .04 bed depth, hardly any. But in general I understand 1/8 to 3/16 depth. I found a formula for figuring out the arc also. And, I think looking and studying the wood snare drums that I have in my collection will be helpful as well. John (Purdie Shuffle) sent me some good info on drum edges last year that explains the different profiles and how they effect the sound, thanks John. Its something I will think over before diving into.

So wouldn`t that limit you to the depth of the bed with the OD edge ? If you do a 45 from center,you could have too deep of a bed already ? Wich ply are you gonna start the OD from ?

Not sure I understand your question and since I dont have the shell yet I have not really thought too much about it yet. I have spent just a few minutes looking on you tube at edge and bed work but have not found much there. I could end up with a 30 degree round over edge, who knows.
