Oddball, the sheet was 48x96". 48" not long enough to cover the bass and floor tom in one peice.

Okay, hopefully Im done with the Level Sealer and can shoot some gloss top coat. Time to go out in the shop and inspect for pits.

You are reaching a very high level here-heirloom drums that would be passed father-son.Beautiful effort.And quality drums to start with,too.

Thanks Tom! I have played around with sprays and finishes for over thirty years, I starting to get the hang of it,lol.

These drums will stay with me for a very long time. I dont have a son to hand them over to and my daughters wont want them, I think, so not sure what will happen to all my drums. I have had a hard time selling the good kits. I have sold the mij's that I experimented with using sparkles and candies. Remember the lime green, the copper sparkle and the purple kits? They are all gone. But the real vintage kits with the origional wraps I just cant let go of, I love them too much. I hope to have the funds this summer to finish off my rec room and make a nice drum room. then in about 15 years I will sart to sell them off as I need cash.

Thanks Bill. Maybe its a good thing you dont live close,,just kidding,,I really wish you did, it would be great to have someone who shares the same passion for drums nearby. I could spray your shells and you could coach me on my playing.

Well I just sprayed the four shells wuth the gloss top coat. Im happy with the results. I will post finished pictures later, after I get batteries for my camera.

Magnamax for the top gloss coat? Is that a poly or a lacquer? Does the Level Sealer accept both? Also, do these finishes have to be sprayed on, or will brush-on applications self-level out?

Jeez these drums are going to be stunning with the hardware on! Looking forward to the next update.

Mike, Magnamax is a pre cat lacquer with a 120 day pot life. Level Sealer is a post cat with a 24 hour pot life. I use all M.L. Campbell products so they will safely work with each other. I don’t know if you can spray a poly over Level Sealer or not. Polyurethane that you buy from a hardware store is very hard finish. In the cabinet business we like to use conversion varnish which is better. The level sealer must be applied with spray equipment.

I managed to spray two coats of gloss top coat today.

Picture one, finish of choice.

Picture two, unfinished concert tom next to a finished tom shell.

Picture three, shell after one coat of gloss.

Picture four, shell after second and final coat of gloss.

Its hard to capture the true quality of the finish on camera, wish everyone could see this in person.

There you have it, a finished drum shell. Now to drill the holes and bolt on the hardware.

Rogers owners, any suggestions on heads?

Tomorrow I will get some shots of the edges that I cleaned up on the router table.

Wow. This KOA veneer was a great choice Jeff! I can never tell you enough how nice the work you do really is. Gonna be a KILLER kit when finished!!!

On the snare are you making a Dynasonic copy (with the bridge and whatnot) or just a standard snare?
