As part of a larger project, I am photographing several collections of "ancient" style rope tension drums. I have been granted permission to photograph collections in a few museums as well as some pretty impressive private collections. A museum that is close to my heart is one that is right here in Connecticut, The Company of Fifers and Drummers museum. In exchange for being allowed to photograph their collection I am assisting them in cataloging all of their drums and drum related items both on display and in the archives.
As a bonus to all of this, my friend Ellis Mirsky has offered me the opportunity to write a blog about the journey that I have undertaken, on his site, fielddrums.com I hope you will all take a moment to read the first posting on his site about some of the first drums that I have pulled off display to photograph. The second installment on the blog should be posted on Monday or Tuesday.
