A Kevlar head?Pardon my ignorance but is a rope tensioned drum going to work with a modern marching head?Great looking drum BTW...
King Louie:
I can attest from experience that Kevlar heads work GREAT with rope tension drums. As Matt has already shown in this continuous thread, he made all the rope tension drums for the modern, military brass band of the 1st Company Governor's Foot Guard, Hartford, Connecticut (the Country's oldest, official State militia unit in continuous military service since 1771). Shot of our drums (Matt's creations):

Although Kevlar is not a perfect sonic substitute for calfskin, it's close enough in tonal quality, but unlike calfskin, it's practically indestructable and immune to temperature and humidity changes. And since changing out batter heads on rope tension drums is a time-consuming P.I.T.A (unless you're a pro like Matt), Kevlar provides a huge advantage. When my Remo Powerstroke 4 batter finally gives out, I'm having Matt reinstall a Kevlar head despite the cost ($$$$!)
