Jeff I have a old Pearl MIJ tom is SS. The sparkles are very small compared to anything I've seen on US stuff. Almost like a silver sand finish? I'm not sure now much the MIJ wraps vary in size and shade. I'll look at the CT show this weekend if nothing else pans out for you. Someone might have some oddball wrap scraps there. I looked at the stuff you sent me last year but nothing silver. Just gold-red-blue.

Glenn.

Bite your tongue!

Ok, ouch! I did it.

Funny this came up, the seller asked me if I was going to re-wrap them. I just gave him a funny look. A few extra holes in the bass drum is not enough to worry about. I think what I will do is get the triangular base tom mount to cover some of them and get my hands on some vintage wrap to fill in the ones that still show, or try Vibes idea with the glitter. But even if I do nothing at all I still own a Camco OakLawn kit with a beautiful wrap and 95% original parts. And I will always be able to get my 600.00 back if I sell it.

Thank you!

Jeff, Have you thought about using a small one inch piece of the silver sparkle wrap from the bass drum hoop inlay that's under your Bass Drum pedal? The part right where the two ends come together. It might be better than taking matching wrap from under the lugs...A 1" piece should provide enough to patch 4 small holes.

thats a great idea! And it will work very good if get the triangular base tom mount to cover the 1" hole. The next problem is the 12" tom probably does not have the correct mount that will connect to the system. It has a mount that looks just like the floor tom leg mount.

So, take a look at the pic below, would this setup be correct for a 1965 Oak Lawn kit?

Then look at my 12" tom, would that mount be correct?

So, maybe the triangular base mount would be incorrect.

Thanks for all you guys chiming in to help me out, I really appreciate this.

Hang in there, Jeff! All the work and worry and expense will quickly become a memory the second you hear them!

There are no other drums on the planet that can sound as good as Oaklawn Camco's. Your efforts will pay off!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Have you checked the interior of the 12" to make sure they were not already there and maybe plugged and re painted ? Point is Ryan did such a great job on plugging my factory tom mount holes that if painted you would never know they were there. Did the bass drum have this setup?

Jeff, the 4 small holes on your bass drum look to me like the original mounts on your drum kit were not entirely Camco. To me it looks like the original owner might have ordered the kit virgin then installed a 1960s Ludwig Rail Mount and the Floor Tom Bracket on the Tom..Or had the tech at the shop where he ordered it do it...Brilliant, And Very Sturdy. I like it! Of course I've always been partial to the Ludwig rail mounts be cause they are minimalistic in design and hold incredibly well.

I have brand spanking new, never used Camco floor tom leg brackets which as you can see in the photo fit perfectly. If yours has seen better days I would be happy to send you one if that's the mounting system that was originally used. Free of charge.

The wrap on these Camcos is really beautiful. It is silver sparkle, but in an indirect light it has a little goldish champaign color to it. Still dont want to take wrap from under a lug, I think the holes are just something I need to "live with" There is no way to fill them in that will be good enough to satisfy myself, I don't think.

When I zoom in on the right upper hole ( Of the 4 small holes ) I think I am seeing the indentation of a Ludwig Rail Mount. Same shape

Yep, this is extremely close to the only other version of the floor tom leg mount being used as a tom mount. In that other instance they were using (I think) one of the square/diamond Ludwig plates and attendant mount.

This might be the answer to the conundrum.
