Big WFL Restoration

Those are some gorgeous maple shells, fish. Have you considered leaving them in a natural finish? I know, plugs... but the wood under there looks really beautiful. 'Golden.'

Nice job on the clean-up. I know from experience that removing that sparkle bright crap is a real bear to get off. Can't wait to see em done.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Definitely a thought, John. Though these shells are mahogany outer ply and I'm not really anticipating getting all this white paint off of such porous wood.

We'll see!!!

STRIPPED!!!

13" was a marble lacquer finish (did WFL do that?), snare was a blue/silver duco, and the floor tom was covered in WMP, as indicated by the remnants of wrap at the seam. Need a bit of fill and sanding before paint. Especially the kick drum. Would love to cover these, but I don't think heads would fit properly.

Gee, I have the exact same shells. These showed up to my shop today. These will get a duco paint job. I have made a jig to hold my paint gun steady and a turntable to spin the shell on. Aron wants black edges with gold center. Any clue of where to start the fade, the space between the lug screw holes are all different so should I just make the center band of gold the same width on all of them. Anyone have a kit like this with an origional paint job and could post some pics or email them to me to help me figure this out?

Plan is to spray the gold on first then spray the edges with a sort of black foggy transition from gold to black, sound right?

Yes it did help, thank you. Is the gold on the kick drum wavey or is it just the flash from the camera making it look wavey? I have notice some kits do have uneven fades as opposed to a nice straight line.

I searched duco drums and found those, wow how cool! Also found Johns duco thread where he made a turntable. I contacted Aron to let him know this thread has been revived, so hopefully he will chime in soon. We are trying to get a color for the gold from Sherwin Williams. Thank you for your help!

Thank you!
