The plasticoat looks good to me too.
here is the pic from the other thread with the granitone match. the plasticote was the best match for that drum. I donot use hardware store type epoxy as a wood filler. I am not going to repost the rest of that thread here sorry. it is not a big deal to join the forum if you want more builder's info. best of luck
I have used the Duplicolor on some trunks on auto restorations we have done over the years. Seems like I remember it having a green tint to it to match the fabric or vinyl trunk mat on the floor of the trunk. Ill be checking all of them. Our Lowe's here has a paper roll hanging to test spray paint colors. Roll it out and spray a spot to make sure. I finally got my regestration to ghostnote. I saw your thread on the wood veneer. Very interesting. That veneer looks like its a bear to work with. When its stuck its stuck and no turning back. I am more than familiar with contact adhesive. I have been using it in my business for 30 yrs or so. We spray it on to instal Vinyl tops, carpet, foam, ect..... Im in the auto inter restoration business. I have done many similar operations on drums myself. I have also documented them with pics on this forum. Thanks for the tip on the paint!!
see my thread at ghostnote about granitone. the plasticote was the closest i could find, but there are variations in ludwig's paint as well as some variation can to can with these speckle type finishes. be sure to use a medium light grey base under the stone finish.

I've actually never owned any of the Standard line but I think converting to Classics is a very good idea, (considering of course that the old wrap was too far gone).After all they are the exact same shells and that is what lies at the heart of the matter. Im still waiting on my quote from jammin sam. I am going to call and request some samples. I have a way to go before i am ready to wrap. I have to remove all the glue and fill some spots on the shells and plug the spur holles and redrill for the classic curved spurs, and I need to gather up some hardware. Its a process I have learned to be patient with.

Yep, veneering old drums can be quite challenging. Wrap is a much much simpler easier more practical alternative. Still have to align everything just right for gluing, but none of the hassle of very fragile wood that easily shrinks, splits etc.
Installing the wrap is the easiest part of restoring drums to me. Its everything that leads up to that that takes the most patience. But I have been gluing with contact adhesive at my shop for over 3 decades now. There are numerous drum warp videos on youtube that are interesting to watch, but I would think veneer is extremly brittle and unforgiving. If you stick it a little wrong and attempt to pull it back off. Oh hell!!!

Maybe that's why they came up with the butcher block wrap, which I always thought was goofy. I prefer the au naturel wood look. Cool Dude
My daughter and grandkids are here for the weekend, so my new restoration is on hold for a few. i am waiting on my orange mod wrap sample from Jammin sam also.
As soon as it gets a little warmer I'm gonna go out and work on my project. I need to clean all the glue off of these shells and take inventory on what all I need to get this done. I recieved my samples of Mod orange and citrus mod and psychedelic red from jammin sams and I got my 5 new b/o restoration badges from my old Kentucky drums.
