I got my Gotham Grey Plasti-Kote paint today. I resprayed the repaired spot inside mt bass drum shell and it looks perfect. The stone touch paint has a rough texture so I fine sanded it after it dried and you cant tell it has been repaired and that the holes ever excisted. I am so pleased y'all!!

Thanks Mountianhick for your help!

Ok I just finished plugging 1/2 of the lug holes in my small tom. I decided not to try to bevel the holes to fit the tapered dowels, since the shells are so thin, and the fact that i am using epoxy instead of wood glue.

The originals holes are 1/4". I got a 5/16 dowel rod to fill the holes.

I used 60 minute expoy to give me plenty of time to get this done correctly.

I have my Plastic-Kote Gotham Grey Stone Touch spray paint to match the interior of this shell

First I broke the dowel rod into about 3" pieces, next I chucked each piece up in a drill, next I got a piece of 60 grit sandpaper and sanded one end of the 3" dowl rod piece buy running the drill and squeezing the rod with the sand paper,

next I test fitted each piece to make sure it was sanded enough. but not too much, next i mixed up my 60 minute epoxy in a bowel, next I dabbed epoxy onto the tapered end of the dowel rod using the chopstick I got, next insert it into the hole,

next tap it in till it fits real tight, but not so much it outties the inner ply, next wipe the excess epoxy off the outter shell. Let dry a hour or so and then the next segment of this operation

HINT: use a new paper towel every time you wipe the access epoxy and you wont get it all over your self.

Ok Y'all, I cut the excess dowels off and sanded them flush with the shell inside and out. I just used my Wizzard (B&D's version of the dremel) with a little saw blade. it barely fit inside the shell but it worked fine After cutting the dowels on the interior I switched to a little grinding stone to get flush with the shell, then sanded it by hand. I just used a vibrator sander on the outter shell. The inner shell had imprints of the lug screw washers inbedded into the shell. I sanded most of that out, but this paint will cover the rest.

Around the vent hole the ply had a slight outtie. I guess it was from someone forcing a grommet that was slightly too large. I got the smallest screwdriver I had and wedged it inbetween lifting the seperated area up enough for me to get some wood glue in there. Dobbed some wood glue in there with a tooth pick and slipped a 5/16 bollt with washer through the hole and a wing nut with washer on the other side of the shell, tightened it up and it will be good as new in a few hours. Then on to the paint. In the meantime Im gonna experiment with this paint. When sprayed on it has a much rougher texture than the acoustic coating. I will have to sand it after I paint it to get the desired result

Painted the tom shells today. I decided to paint both toms so they will match. the paint is extremly close but not exact. I bought 6 cans for $20 shipped. I decided to test each can and see if there was any kind of variance. It seems like a few of the cans had more black specks than others, but it may be my imigination. I would think thay all 6 cans came out of the same batch from the factory. I experimented on a piece of wood. After spraying the board I let the paint dry 7-8 minutes, then patted it with plastic food wrap, This mashed down the course texture and made it much smoother. After painting the shells, I got a food handling glove and patted the paint down after 8 minutes. It turned out great. heres pics of the toms compared to the unpainted snare shell.
