Still here, but I am not a frequent poster.

I like to check in every few days to see whats new. Yes there are a lot of Face book drum groups but I just dont like the format on Face book and how its laid out. I feel that this forum has some real intelligent people that are graciously giving their best advice to just about anyone who asks for it. I dont see that on Face book, just short little one line or one word responses. I am very happy to be a part of this community even though I do not post as often as i used to. One reason for that is time, I need to spend my time wisely and that means playing drums, not talking about them. I have met a lot of cool people here over the years and learned so much form them. I value this forum and will continue to monitor it years to come. I will agree with the picture download issues and have to admit that I have posted my latest projects elsewhere because of it. But in a nut shell, this is a great place to meet nice folks and learn about vintage drums!

I am much more comfortable with VDF and DFO. The level of discussion and the accuracy of information far surpass the Facebook groups. I can also search through old posts to get answers to my questions or confirm things i have read. I have grown tired of trying to engage in reasoned discussion on FB.

I am writing a few articles for NSMD that will hopefully add to the collective knowledge base for vintage drummers. That venue works better for the long research type articles that I write.

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

If anyone knows, you must.

Well, the deal is that only players' kits are on the market. The true collector's stuff is off the table and has been for quite awhile. The stuff that has to be "given away" is the altered/orphaned/refurbished/mismatched stuff....so that basically removes the picky collectors from buying. They only want the real and intact legit stuff. That's a big chuck of buyers of vintage drums that simply won't bother with buying, otherwise.

Johnny, a lot of your kits are players kits. This is why they won't get the big money on the market. Your only buying crowd is limited to just the working-drummers....who are now out of work.

It would sure be nice if we could update the badge date information that is apparently in need of updating. I would rather see the corrected stuff posted here than I would to buy a booklet or whatever...but one of the big things about this place is to have correct reference material. I have referenced dates with what we have, now, and apparently haven't been giving accurate information. I think it would be good to either remove the incorrect information and repost the correct information...or at least take down the incorrect reference material.

I hardly think I'm trying to get "Big Money" the Sonor I'm selling is a nice kit. There are no extra holes, just missing a kick hoop, players kit, ok, ya, but $800 is not big money.

Besides, not too many Sonor teardrops pop up around here too often, especially in a fairly rare finish.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Hahahahaha. Why did I ever trade this drum set away? There was nothing wrong with it. I was simply in the "horse trading" mode back when I did this.
