What would make this kit worth $4000???

Loading...

Well, his kit just showed up on eBay! And, check out his price! Part of his description says "This picture is a reference picture. If you are interested. Email me for specific closeup shots."

Here's the link... https://www.ebay.com/itm/392098390201?ViewItem=&item=392098390201

If the link doesn't take, it's eBay item number 392098390201

I messaged him, saying it's a nice kit, but wondering why he just doesn't post pictures of the actual kit. Yeah, I'm playing dumb and not mentioning that the picture is from Rusty Drums Ltd, UK.

Let's see what response I get!

just sent the guy this email:hi, very nice kit you have there. i am very interested. your add says a snare comes with it but it is not shown in the picture, what is the snare you are including and do you have a photo of it?when would be a good time to take a look at this set in person?thank you for your time.i'll post his reply, if he replies. i love messing with scammers. kept a scammer going for about three weeks a few months ago. he was claiming i owed the irs 4,000$. told him i would be able to start payments at end of the month, he kept calling me back so finilly told him i got a money order for 200$ and asked where to send it, he said no no you need to go to target and get money card, lol. i said ef off and hung up, haven't heard from him since. anyway...ill keep ya's posted on what i hear back from this guy.

Hi Robyn! Ya know, what's really odd about this is that the seller has an excellent feedback rating. Looking at what he sells, he normally provides many pictures. I just don't understand why he posts a hijacked picture of what he may, or may not, have. Makes no sense. I'll be interested to read his reply to you!

Someone's ebay account was hacked. The seller normally sells Kenner branded action figures and not much else. Odd for a big dollar drum set to be listed among the other items. Definitely a scam artist fishing for money. You would think that someone who claims to have owned a 1960's Ludwig drum kit since new would not only want actual pictures of the kit listed so that they can get their asking price, but that they could actually spell things properly too. Laughing H

Also notice that a lot of the same figures listed by this seller are listed twice....once for a reasonable price, and another time with a very unrealistic price......someone's account was definitely hacked and the scammer is just plain stupid.

here is the reply i got:

I’m in Cuyahoga Falls it’s a little red but it’s not red sparkle. (referring to the snare i asked about)

Here is a picture of the floor tom....Notice that I still have the original Ludwig skins. 12" 16" 20"

I was born in 1957 and got the drums when I was in the 4th grade, so I'm going to say it was 1964 or 1965.

ill add the photos he sent. it is obvious that the floor tom he sent a picture of is not the same ft in the add photo. never did give me a real answer about the snare.

i agree with ludwigdude. im sure he hacked someone's account on ebay. wonder if there is a way to notify ebay of this hack?

I already reported both the CL ad and the ebay ad earlier......

The guy was supposed to have been born in 1957? Awful young looking foot in that first pic if you ask me.....

good for you on the report. i was gonna make a report on the ebay listing but its been so long since ive signed in on ebay, i cant remember my info. was gonna ask him some questions there too. he has been emailing me tho. i asked about the snare again and for any photos he could send and any other info. he replied saying he was getting ready to leave for the day and that he will send more photos in the morning.

you are right about the foot, i didnt really pay much attention to that, but now that you mention it, i took another look and agree.

ya know, i really hate scammers and it makes me sad to think of all the poor souls that have been taken by scammers.

I would call the local police and report the evidence you have against the guy selling this set. Let them deal with it.

Why would you bother the police? Has he actually broken the law or is just being dishonest? Unless he actually scams someone, I don't know that the police can do much, besides, they have bigger fish to fry.

I'm curious how exactly this scam would work, he lures you over to look at his kit in hopes you have 4 grand stuffed in your pocket and then robs you?

I know ebay has some sort of buyer protection policy. Clue me in.

Honestly, I don't think it's a scam, but more of a clueless seller. If you look at both the CL and eBay posts, they are both from the same area/city. The pictures that were posted here of his actual floor tom clearly show hardware/cosmetic issues that don't justify the asking price. I'm just at a loss as to why he won't post pictures of the actual kit. Others have mentioned that the ads have been hacked. I don't think that's the case here.

What we really need is to find a member who lives close and willing to check out the kit, complete with pictures.

I emailed to ask what he thinks makes them worth $5,000. I'm not expecting a response.
