Update from Rusty Drums Ltd..

Just received an email from Mark Jeffs of Rusty Drums. Here's his short and concise email to me:

Thanks for that Mark,

It's a scam. That kit didn't leave the UK

Cheers Mark

So, there you have it. Case closed!

To keep this going, I also messaged the seller about his kit and why it's the exact same picture as posted on the UK website. Here's his response...

Hey jackass why don’t you come over to my house and look at the set

Wow, what a classy guy!

Don't go over there Mark! You will become part of his/her collection!

It's another case of the Red Drum killer!

Stop stringing and tuning your instrument, make music now.

It's one thing for a longtime seller on Reverb, eBay or one of the forums to ask the highest price because they're knowledgeable about the kit, respectful of its history, and willing to put their reputation and judgement on the line. Those are the sellers who include many pictures and are willing to discuss the item with you.

Some random yahoo on Craigslist asking $4k is ridiculous, though. He includes no pictures and can barely describe what he claims to be selling. It comes across as someone running a scam or someone who's going to give you the run around. I mean, he can't even be bothered to back up his astronomical price with any evidence that the kit is worth that? That's a lazy seller who just expects people to believe him.

Probably one of those insufferable smartest-guy-in-the room sorts.

Or just a scam.

You're all good in my (and everyone else's) book, Gary. :) Congratulations, truly, on the price you got for your WMPs.

Yep. I asked for more pictures and he said no, just to come look at them. I've been trying to string him along, though. He's avoiding answering any questions about whether the picture is of his drums.

Exactly! I also doubt he'll answer my question about why he chose to use a picture that is not his actual kit.

Just told me the sizes are 12, 16, 20. I wonder if he actually has drums or if he Googled what sizes they might be.

He also told me they've rarely been played since he bought them.

I'd take him up on the offer just to call his bluff. Course, I'd take a couple other guys with me. I'd like to know what his end game is.

Well if they are 12/16/20 (that is if the set actually exists) then they are worth even less than, at most, half of what he's asking since the 14x14 in the picture represented a sizeable portion of that amount.

Maybe he saw an oyster black or citrus mod set that someone wanted $4k for and figured he has the same thing...just in a different color...and what difference could that make?

just sent the guy this email:

hi, very nice kit you have there. i am very interested. your add says a snare comes with it but it is not shown in the picture, what is the snare you are including and do you have a photo of it?

when would be a good time to take a look at this set in person?

thank you for your time.

i'll post his reply, if he replies. i love messing with scammers. kept a scammer going for about three weeks a few months ago. he was claiming i owed the irs 4,000$. told him i would be able to start payments at end of the month, he kept calling me back so finilly told him i got a money order for 200$ and asked where to send it, he said no no you need to go to target and get money card, lol. i said ef off and hung up, haven't heard from him since. anyway...

ill keep ya's posted on what i hear back from this guy.

Stay Wiggly,
Robyn
