John, how is the snare coming?

Jeff - Haven't gotten to it yet! I've been using a 7"x14" Mahogany finish Radio King (which also has calf heads like the toms,) and sounds great with the rest of the kit. I will assemble the J-Fest shortly and post up some shots. But to be perfectly honest, assembled or not, the Radio King is the snare I'll use with the kit.

It is all set-up in my basement, I've been playing the kit for weeks now and loving every minute of it. The drums not only came out great, they sound great as well. I'll take some shots and post them up later.

Jeff - All... here are some shots of the kit all set-up. I am using a vintage mahogany 7"x14" Radio King snare drum that I recently acquired. It has calf heads just like the toms, so it fits right in sound-wise. These drums have a deep, warm resonance to them. Not very loud, but the tone is killer. It's deep and cuts off perfectly, no 'over-ring' at all. It sounds its note when you hit it and then it decays and cuts, with that nice softer-attack that you get from calf-skin. I'm loving them. If I was hooked up with a band, I'd be playing these all the time. Great classic tone.

I just want to say about the Radio King, the great thing about these drums is; you get a tremendous 'dry' pop when you nail it near the center, but it's so 'wet' and toney out on the rims. It really is a 'perfect' snare drum.

John, thank you for the pics. I see now why your in no hurry to get the j.f. together, that Slingy snare is beautiful and it fits right in. Im really proud to have had a big part in getting your kit together.

I am doing a Slingy mahogany snare for drumhack at the moment, it will be a beauty also.

Thanks, Jeff. The Radio King 'makes' the kit. The heart and soul of any drum kit is the bass drum and the snare, if you're lucky enough to find a kit with a killer bass and snare, you are among the fortunate few. If the kit also has killer sounding toms, and great looks, then you found a 'perfect' set of drums.

-This- is a perfect set of drums by any standards. Thanks for the great job on the shells. This set is a keeper for sure. :p

There is not a single mark on this drum. It really is in cherry condition.
