once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

LOL - my wife, Bev asked me the same thing. It just means you don't want to sit across from me in a poker game.

Dude, it was all I could do to keep from jumping up and down in front of the guy. I kept a straight face, stayed calm, handed over the cake, and brought my drums home.

Some work to do, but thankfully nothing major or terribly expensive. Here's a little report on the condition of the kit as I received it:

The shells are 3-ply mahogany! Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany. All bearing edges are clean and smooth.

Bass drum: Wrap is DIRTY, but in excellent condition. The drums had to have been stored in a dark place for the wrap to be as bright as it is under all that dirt and dust. One hoop is a metal MIJ that needs to be replaced, (fortunately, I have a 22" Ludwig hoop from a 60's kit!) and all the claws need replacing. I have 20 vintage WFL claws that will fit and look perfect. Hoop needs sanding and repainting. Other than that, the bass drum is complete, has no extra holes and is in overall great condition.

The two 12" toms are in 8.5/10 condition and they only need the reso hoops and tension rods to complete them. I already have 1 12" Luddy hoop so All I need is 1 to finish the toms.

The floor tom is perfect. 9/10. Only needs to be cleaned and new skins.

All the shells and bearing edges are perfect. No extra holes or damage anywhere. No rash, no cracks, no problems. I really lucked out with this one.

Last but not least, the kit included a 5" x 14" pre-serial COB super Ludwig. I'm in the process of detailing it as we speak. Crimped beds, chrome over brass shell, hoops and lugs. P-83 looks like new.

See photos. Sorry for fuzziness... I'm going to have to start using a tripod to steady my shots.

Enjoy,

John

Bloody f***ing hell, mate!!!

My sentiments precisely, bunny! Couldn't have said it more eloquently myself! flower

I'm actually still a little freaked out at what a great deal I just got. Doesn't happen everyday. Or even every year!

How weird!

I just picked up a Vista kit this weekend. Missing bottom hoops, one of the bd hoops is the same steel replacement that's on yours. My drums are in great shape as well. After a good cleaning/polishing they'll be cherry, but I sure didn't get a COB Supra with mine! Just though it was strange that both of our kits are basically missing the exact same parts and even have the same bd hoop/rods/claws that are incorrect!

LOL - Adam, in another Galaxy, somewhere in a basement far, far away, is a 60's 'Made In Japan' kit that is missing two chrome hoops and all the claws. Off in another corner of the same dark place, is a bag with all our missing tom hoops!

As Gen. Patton (almost) once said; "I'd like to personally shoot the paper-hanging SOB that cannibalized our kits!"

I 'think' the freaky coincidence between our kits is called; "synchronicity." Walking It -is- a weird coincidence though, isn't it? Same parts... (Cue: Sci-Fi theramin music! Ooooweeeahhhooooo!)
