Loading...

From Purdie Shuffle

What are you talking about? That drum is a beauty! How does it sound/play? I love the tube lugs and the strainer. The tube lugs must really open her up and let her sing.Beautiful drum! Nice job on that one. Me likey!John

Thanks Man, it plays great, real responsive for doubles. Tuned it up tight and sounds real crisp and snappy.

Rim shots are NICE.

So are your Beavertail repro lugs World Max? I like those.

I think "drum factory" carries World max products too.

Good Stuff, Good Days, Thanks Guys

Green glass....nothing pedestrian about that drum.I guess you cound say I have the little brother or more accurately second cousin to those drums.Mine is a 79 Slingy Spitfire,5 x 14,lacquered brass 3 line shell,TDR strainer,12 lugs.

The catalog says they are brass shells, but I have my doubts.Anyway thanks again John and all for posting the Slingy goodness.Yes Sir

Me too, Steve! Actually it was my wife who made the call as I took the shell out of the box, she sang out; "That's not brass, it's bronze!" Damn if it turns out she's right.

Slingerland -was- producing bronze shells at that time. The dealer who sold these, non-drummer, mislabeled them. The consensus among the guys that bought these is, that they are bronze shells. All I know is; it's one of the best sounding snares in my small arsenal.

James - All the guys that bought these vintage shells is happy with it and as you can see, some really cool drums came out of the venture. Please post photos of your shell and the drum you make out of it. I'd love to see it and I'm sure I speak for the other guys too.

Which shell did you buy? What do you have in mind for it design-wise?

Hi John,

I bought the 5 x 14, 3 line shell. I am still undecided about how exactly I want to finish it though. Right now I am leaning towards picking up those beaver tail lugs...I love the look of those! Where did you say you got them?

Once I get the shell I'll post some pics, in the mean time I am totally open to suggestions!

Cool drums guys! Yes Sir

From green glass drum

True, everybody was getting them after you told us about them. Including me.Thanks, they are cool.I have decided they are bronze. Well, maybe they all sat in the same closet somewhere. Now all over the US.Well their pics are getting together now here.I agree, the clips and the old stuff is such a well thought out presentation.Mine is just a pedestrian. Both of yours are great looking. Here is one of their cousins.

The cousin looks great, man !!

Congrats !!

James - Here's a link to where I bought the beavertails:

http://www.vintagedrumshop.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=VDS&Product_Code=snbvrtllgs&Category_Code=DP

While you're there... check out the vintage repro 3-point strainers!

If you're open to suggestions: Sticksaver hoops, (Worldmax) the 3-point strainer, Puresound wires & the 8 beavertails and you'll be in vintage Heaven!

The new repro beavertails are made from a much better metal mix than the old ones. The new ones won't crack under pressure like the originals do. They look killer on the shell too! Classy.

Post a photo when your shell arrives!

And here's mine.

Details: repro Beavertail lugs, 3 point strainer, OEM SK Chicago badge

and muffler, Remo Vintage A batter & Ambassador reso.

It currently has triple flange hoops - I've not gotten around to ordering

a set of repro stick savers.

These are bronze - an OP on another forum got his in an OEM box

and posted a pic of the carton markings.

These are everything everyone says about them. This has become one

of my 'American Express' snares - I don't leave home without it.

Thanks to John (Purdie Shuffle) for turning us on to these in the first place.
