Cheers! I was tempted by the blue, but thought the green was a little different! It's actually more vibrant than it looks on the site shot, a little more 'emerald' looking.

Just keeping my eye on ebay, though you can get them from Remo. Pricey though!

not sure whether you have gotten you're stuff from Ingo and Gerd yet, but both should be able to supply you with heads for your bass drum. Altenberger and Stabil in Germany both make the 500 mm heads and I don't think they are any where as expensive as the Remo heads(they are around 100.00) Trixon badges by the way are like gold bars. If you can find one for under 25.00 that's a buy.

Hi all. Well, finally found some time to get started. I've stripped all the hardware off and am removing the old wrap at the moment - which hasn't been too bad, luckily!

I found out a couple of things though and was wondering if anyone can help. Just out of interest, I tried a 20" premier head I had. It was an old T3 batter. Though it was slightly too big for the bass drum, it fitted - albeit with wiggle room! Is this usual? Surely I could then use modern heads, certainly on the reso - perhaps a snug fit would be better for the batter side.

Also, there was a head already on the floor tom. When I removed it, I noticed that someone had shaved away some of the shell to the vertical depth of an inch! When the head's attached you can't see it, but am I right in thinking that Trixon floor's are too big for standard modern heads, so a previous owner has slimmed down the drum to make a modern head fit? They've not done it on the reso side, so I guess they played the tom concert-style.

As for the 13" tom - that has heads fitted already, but don't know if 13's are standard anyway.

Up until 1964, Trixon bass drums came in 3 sizes , with the occasional custom 4th size floating around. 500mm 550mm and 600mm. Yours is the 500mm,which is 19 3/4". 20's can work o.k. especially if you can get one with less drop on it. The alto mounted tom was 330mm, which is so close to 13" that the difference is infinitesimal(12.99 "). They also had a soprano at 230mm(slightly over 9") and a tenor at 363mm (14 3/16"). The floor toms at the time your drums were made were 363mm(14 3/16") 418 mm(16 1/2")---between 1960-64 or 426mm(16 3/4")---prior to 1964 and 500mm(19 3/4"). I suspect that you have a post 1960 kit, so your floor tom may take a pre-1965 Premier head. I've never tried one. Apparently , they are 16 1/2" and are stocked by Remo. I do have some custom Remo heads for the 363,418,500 and 550 sizes in various formulations but they are quite expensive. The stock Premier head, might be the way to go but even a 1/32" could cause disappointment----I suppose you could always shave the shell.
