Trixon project

Hi all. Bagged this vintage Trixon set off e-bay recently - I love the look of it and the lugs! Wrap's in a sorry state though, so going to re-wrap. It also needs some skins and is missing badges. I'm looking forward to getting it up and running and was thinking of BMP wrap simply because I like that colour!

Seller said it was late 1950's.

Whoa! That set is beautiful! That WMP has mellowed perfectly!

PLEASE, don't rewrap that set, it would be a crime! From what I've seen, Trixon sets in original condition with all (or most of) the original parts are pretty rare. I would strongly advise you to leave this set as it is.

What exactly is wrong with the wrap? Maybe it can be fixed! The color itself is just something that happens over time, something that shows the age and character of the set. I think a color like that is something to be proud of.

hi Brody,

it's a Trixon LUXUS 0/200 in white marine pearl - a "little bit" faded to yellow ;-)

The drums are early 60s - 1960/61 if the sizes are metric on the bass and floor tom, and then 1962/63 if they are real international inch.

In those years Trixon often made stamps inside the shells, have a look for it. The last 2 numbers are the year.

They aren't late 50s because of the shape of the floor tom and bass drum leg holders.

Badges avaliable from the trixon website, as are spare parts !!

Thanks for the info!

Actually, I would leave the wrap, however it is damaged in at least one place on each drum. In a couple of instances it's come off completely in a small area. Otherwise i wouldn't re-wrap.

I would agree with cn679 if it were at all possible to keep the wrap. My set of Stars is such an example of a re-wrap. The bass and toms were ripped to pieces with a great deal of the original RDP missing. I tried to match the original pattern. Impossible. My second tom, acquired later was in a yellow stripe which was no longer produced. My cocktail drum which I use as a second tom, was almost devoid of any wrap. Since I gig with these drums, I chose turquoise sparkle as the common colour. The drums look great, in the opinion of anyone who sees them. Sure, perhaps the price has gone down some because the wrap is not original. I really don't care. I have no intention of selling them. They are unique. I personally like the new wrap. I play with these drums regularly and am quite proud of my old kit!

Cheers Diamond - very useful indeed! Now I know the model! Have yet to check the interiors for stamps though. The Trixon site is great - all the spares you could want!

Interesting about the floor tom leg mounts too, seller thought it was late 50's but good to get an accurate dating.

Will keep you posted on developments - I've already managed to get a bargain pre-int head for the bass drum batter, so that's a good start!
