Thats enough votes, Go with your 1st choice and instinct, Mod Orange is the best out of the choices you gave us to vote on. The Red is too busy and too many conflicting colors. Blue Sparkle is too common and boring, The Citrus mod is also nice but not now that Bun E. Carlos has stamped his name on it, not that cool anymore... Ringo Oyster Black Pearl? Everybody is doing this finish or a take off of it. Not just process of elimination, but Mod Orange is a classy finish that fits with the age of the set and is smokin hot and way cool at the same time, and it hasn't been over used it.

My gotham grey plasti-kote stone paint will be here tomorrow. I am very anxious to see how well it matches the shell interiors. If it matches close enough I plan to fill 1/2 of the lug holes in the small tom and redrill it to take small classic lugs. The standard lugs are all identical on everyone of the drums, and have the same footprint as the large classic lugs. whereas a classic hollywood kit has large classic lugs on all the drums except the 12" tom, which has small classic lugs. I got some chopsticks to fill the holes with, but they are too small, so I got some small dowel rods to do it. Leaning toward the Mod orange wrap.

I have been thinking for days about plugging these holes. I plugged the 3/4" holes in the bass drum sprayed them with the trunk paint and you can barley tell. This acoustical coating is very forgiving and requires less fine sanding to look good. I believe I can plug the holes in the tom and redrill them for the sm classic lugs and not be detectable by looking at the inner shell.

I am going to try something slightly different. I hope to find a brill bit that will have a very slight taper, and slightly taper the holes to match the taper im putting on the dowels. Just an experiment I want to share and see how it works.

Tapered reamer, common tool:

You can also get reamers specifically sized for tapered dowell pins.. I'd check Mcmaster carr for these. They come in a wide range of tapers. I have used them for multi piece jigs where they are very useful for taking apart and reassembling jig parts in perfect alignment.

I honestly don't think you need them though if you use an epoxy adhesive. The hardware store varieties have enough body to be exceptional as gap filling adhesives and fillers, and you can thicken them with sawdust if necessary.
