Zim Gar

Loading...

I see some random Zim Gar stuff from time to time

and I always buy them if the price makes sense

My first Zim Gar find was that 3 piece tiger eye kit with the black and gold square badges

mentioned much earlier on the thread

I have since found a number of orphaned Zim Gar drums with the round blue badges

all of them cool in one way or another

I found a few nice snare drums

and also a couple of really cool orphaned single tension 20" bass drums

My latest find was this eight lug stage band style 20" bass and matching 12"mounted tom

came with the bass pedal and one 12" pie

I have four or five kits with these center mounted, stage band looking lugs

but this little blue marine pearl Zim Gar is the only eight lugger of the bunch

Also I found a "really too roached out to save" BDP seven lug 16" floor tom

with the round brass Brooklyn N.Y. badge I harvested the bdp wrap for another project

and of course saved the badge

the rest of the hardware and the shell were way beyond help

Kenwood is one of my favorite members on here for his love of MIJ. Looks like he is all 'set' (set-up) for completions of some sweet little kits.......in many cases needing just that one more drum to complete the kit.

We will all be cheering and applauding when he introduces those threads sharing the score to completion!

John

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Helloooooo John,

Thank you so much for the kind words pal

I sure do love collecting these Mijs

Now If only I could have a little better luck

with regard to missing floor toms and snare drums

Today I found an eight lug chrome Zim Gar snare drum with the square black and gold badges like those on my tiger eye pearl zims

I was buying a vintage Ludwig stainless steel kit in standard sizes 12" 13" 16" and 22"

after buying those I was out of dough and had to leave a sweet blue sparkle Roger's tower snare drum behind ..but as a little cookie my seller offered me the Zim Gar

LOL I was almost as jazzed about the Zim as I was over the stainless Ludwig kit ...Kenwood

I was bored a few nights ago

and was just doing some random Craig's list searchs

I typed Zim Gar drum and found these Zim Gar drums up in Brighton Mass

Very close to Boston in fact Boston College is right near the seller's place

Brighton is just over an hour away from me

and once the seller replied to me with the address I shot right up there

I brought them to my drum space quickly as I was pressed for time

and have not been back since

once I have time I will take some better pics

as this is the one and only pic the seller posted

One thing I noted was although these Zim Gars were all original and were obviously purchased as an entire kit

the snare and toms have the one center lug casing like stage band Slings but the bass drum is single tension style

where one very long tension rod

runs first through a non threaded claw then through a center mounted eyelet and finally into a threaded claw

for adjusting both head's tension at one time

Strange the bass drum tensioning system

is not matched to the snare and toms

But I am certain that this was the way these drums were paired up

right from the factory

Anyway The color is just AWESOME I can not wait to get at them

Thanks Jeff,

It looks like the two toms and the snare drum have die cast hoops

or at very least ones that are made to resemble die cast

Yes they do! Good eye and that's a real nice bonus on this sweet little kit. I don't think I've ever seen that wrap before and I love it! Like there's extra colours in there...

Hello Mitch Thanks Man

When I saw the ad for the kit and that one pic of them

I flashed on an orphaned Zim Gar bass drum that I have

I actually posted a picture of it earlier in this thread

Anyway that drum has sort of a tiger eye coloring

only with other colors blended in as well Black a rusty copper and silver

so on my way up to Brighton to pick them up

I was thinking the whole time,

that they were going to be identical to this orphaned Zim Gar bass drum

But I was wrong they were a similar pattern but not at all the same

Luckily they are even more appealing than what I was expecting

Kenwood, in pic 4 I see a turquoise sparkle bass and snare, do you have any toms like that? Would you sell those?

Thank you!
