Nice find...but be VERY patient re the floor tom.
Zim Gar
Yes, and also be prepared to shell out, potentially far more $ than you paid for the rest of the kit - Not sure what you paid, but whatever great bargain it seemed at the time, to restore it properly will probably end up costing more than the complete kit would fetch if you flipped it. I spent 2 years waiting for an inlayed, wood hoop in same finish, (Tiger's Eye Pearl, according to Pearl catalog) and finally gave up.

Barrhaven Drum Guy
Hello Wayne and Daddynowhere
Thanks very kindly for the replys
Yes I have taken the potential cost and frustration of finding a floor tom and a matching bass drum hoop into consideration.
Luckily I am not concerned about costs exceeding overall value of the kit.
nor am I worried about a pristine restoration
The wraps are just not clean enough for that to begin with
I have a half dozen of these stencil kits, a few partials, several orphans, and growing number of parts.
I use them mostly as display peices in my small used drum shop
Most of the inventory for sale is the more modern entry level and Intermediate level gear Pearl forum/export, Ludwig accent, Tama swing and royalstar,
Yamaha stage customs chinese Sonor... stuff like that.
My only vintage kits save for these stencil kits is a 3 piece black 70's Slingerland kit with a 24" kick and a custom made 3 piece shell pak where someone took what looks to be keller shells and dolled them up with Roger's script logos and beavertail lugs.
Of the stencil kits my best is a 5 piece Black Jack kit in black diamond pearl
20" bass two 12's an 8 lug matching snare with a fourteen floor tom
The kit needed heads hoops and t-rods for the reso side
once fitted with those it is pretty close to mint save for one inlay on the chrome batter side bass drum hoop
I also have a pristine U.S.Mercury kit in beautiful red pearl
this little kit has the stage band style lugs and long rods
Identical to my orange sparkle Ralstons I featured earlier here at VDF
unfortunately the U.S. Mercury kit came as a three piece with no floor tom
another needle in the ole' haystack
If I can get those Zim Gars back together and playable I will be happy enough.
Kenwood...Would you be happy enough to sell me the Zimgars??flowers2
LOL Wayne Heck man let me put some good love on em first hehehe
Hey I am wondering how close the pearl Tiger eye is to the Zim root beer ??
I have a lead on a tiger eye pearl floor tom for 40 bucks
no reso head or hoop and the batter hoop is pretty rusty looking
she is hurting some but no more than the rest of the zim gar shells
The "strata" or swirl pattern looks to be a little tighter on the Pearl than the Zims
but then again it seemed this way to me
between the bass drum and the snare and tom on the zims as well
Well for what it is worth I have the Pearl floor tom with the tiger eye wrap
I figured I could fit it with some japanese stick saver copy hoops
But noooooo the one remaining batter side ss hoop was pretty roached out and rusted and unfortunately this drum has just seven lugs not eight
grrrrrrrr!!! ..so now I need a couple seven hole 16" hoops
I would be happy with just one
as I hit the rust with some 0000# steel wool and plenty of elbow grease
so what good chrome was left is shiney once again
The re-ring down at the reso bearing edge is sprung
(I am not at all sure, how in heck to get that back in place)
and there is some ply separation to the shell in the same general area
I tried uploading a few pics but they need to be smaller and I have no pic resizing tool on the new computer.
Anyway while I was down in Niantic Connecticut for the tiger eye pearl
I found a couple old Olympic shells in the green silk pearl wrap
Just a 20" bass drum and 12" mounted tom ...but I will save the details for an Olympic thread
Help2Help2...if anyone has a seven hole sixteen inch floor tom hoop or two please let me know
I thought I'd post a more recent pic of my Zim-Gar set. I do have the matching snare, but it isn't really up to par.

Very classy, i bet that bass drum is thunderous!!
I just bought a set of drums that contained a mix of brands - Ludwig, Pearl , and Ideal. The Ideal being in the family of the ZimGar's . I was absolutely amazed at the condition of the these Ideal drums - 14X20 bass and 16X16 FT. The interior surfaces are just like brand new. The wrap is black diamond pearl, but I do not know if it is original. The chrome is very good too for most of it. The tension casings are the thin pointed style similar to the Premier type of years ago and are double row. I have played only Rogers and Ludwig since I started in 1964, so this is odd for me to get excited about these imports.
I did not buy them for me though, rather for a student of mine who already has a full 4 pc set of blue sparkle ZimGars, but his set has been heavily modified or repaired on the 14" FT and also the bass drum. The bass has cracking around the spurs as if someone sat on the drum. So these two Ideal drums will be a great addition for him. I told him what these imports are all about and told him to treat them carefully as there are drummers who search for these drums, especially in this condition as a fantastic find.
I'm sure someone will ask for pictures , I will get some of the interiors to show and try to post. I already attempted to upload exterior pictures but am receiving errors, May be too large memory content.
took pictures this morning of the floor tom, the bass drum is in the same condition. Did not take the time to remove the head on the bass drum, the tom head was already partially off so I just took pictures of that.
So my question is what others think of the condition. I never paid attention to these imports and have only seen one kit since the 60's, and even back then I only saw one or two kits, so I don't have the experience to know if they are found in this condition. The one kit that I have seen was in poor condition with mods and repairs, but these two drums I found are in my opinion to be like new. This one has a hand stamp of an A within a circle, is this an inspection stamp? I can't imagine it designates the pitch of the drum similar to how DW stamps their drums.
They came with a pair of clear Vistalite concert toms, a pearl chrome snare and various stands. My student is getting the imports and stands, I'll be selling the snare and vistalites. The Vistalites are already listed on ebay.
