Year & Mount Model

Loading...

My 1960's Pearl ( came badge less, but the inside of the bass drum had a stamped P, and the lugs look to be Pearl ) came without a tom mount. From the holes that were present as well as the center hole It appears I had this mount ( found this photo online ) I can't seem to locate this mount in any catalogs, and I haven't seen it in person. What year would this be from ( roughly ) Same lugs and everything on my kit, was just missing the mount on the bass drum.

Key to dating that kit is the FT leg mounts. Date this kit, then look that up in a catlog in order to try to get a view of the correct tom mount. There is a possibility that the tom mount in this pic is not the original mount.

If yours looks as good as this one, it's a beauty!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Nice looking Kit, well preserved.. but how do you actually know that it's a Pearl kit?? could be a Star made kit... Those lugs are a dead set Slingerland Copy, which Star was famous for...

Any inside shots?

Cheers

John

Yeah Drummerjohn333, square bass to tom mount? I have little experience on these. The Pearl mounts of this era I've seen have been diamond shaped. I was wondering about those lugs, too. Longjohn might have something here.

Wanted: Pearl President floor tom in Golden Grain wrap and rack tom in Tiger Eye (root beer) wrap.

The P stamp inside the bass drum would mean pearl wrap covered...

I painted the interiors white long ago. What made me think Pearl as opposed to Pearl Stencil is the shell quality. The shells are much thicker than my normal MIJ's. They could very well be a pick a name, but some of the best built MIJ's I've seen. I know on mine that tom mount as shown above was the original mount. There are no other holes aside the ones for the cymbal L-arm, and I was always struck by there being the hole in the center for a center post. Not very typical of 1960's MIJ drums. Almost looks like it's a Gretsch mount knock off. The photo I posted, the owner of that kit claims it to be a 1950's, but I can't seem to find any Pearl / Stencil info prior to the 1960's.

I guess you know that Slingerland were the ones using the "P" stamp inside of their wrapped shells... and no one else as far as I know...

( also that BD tom mount looks like early 60's Slingerland )

That's why I asked about inside shots...

I'll take some tomorrow. That though had occurred to me, but the lugs are no way Slingerland. The snare the kit came with had the typical MIJ strainer on it and seemed to match the kit as far as lugs and construction.

Also run a magnet over the rims.... If they are brass that would be interesting..

I'll do that as well. The kit was re-wrapped before I had purchased it ( I've had it close to 15 years myself ). The wrap isn't a standard drum wrap though, but the job was well done and I've never had any seam separation,or any other flaws. I'm partially tempted to remove it and see what lies beneath, but I really do like the color that was chosen. I wonder though if the original wrap is still present, or if there would be some identifying mark on the shell.
