Who here has not gotten along with a china/swish

From drumhack

I am not sure what kind it is but Rob Bourdin of Linkin Park uses his China cymbal to great effect. It totally enhances and yet somehow improves the music of one of the best bands to ever hit the airwaves! guitar2guitar2have a wonderful eveningdrumhack Stage Band2DOHsinger

What I am getting here is that maybe I need to wear earplugs when I play a china!!!!

Good thread. I used the same china regularly for about 5 years. It was a 20 inch Zildjian A custom. I used it for accents. It cut through the music like a knife and did not have much sustain. Wish I still had it.

I wonder what model Paiste that is? I knew it was a Paiste the second I heard it.

edit: I bet it's a Sound Creation.

Looking at the lone caucasian's Yamaha guitar- my rhythm guitar player had one. The intonation was a bear to keep up with, but it is a SCHWEET guitar. But like that cat always does- he got rid of it. He is a fickle cat with his gear...

Thanks!

I have found that a Zildjian is something you just hold onto if you like it, as it is pretty unique. There are a few Zillys I like and wish I still had, including my old K/Z hi hats.

I should shop with my ears as far as a China goes. Maybe an A Zilly is calling my name; if I buy one, I just have Saluda de-logo it and turn it black. But then again, I am so fickle with China sounds. I only de-logo'd my Shade cymbal as I know from experience it has ZERO re-sale value.

The only Paiste China I recall liking was a Sound Creation 18" Dark I had long ago.......

Have had a few 602's also, and just couldn't find one that grabbed me..........

Had a 22" UFIP Tampang once that was interesting.......

I still think the best China I ever had was a 17" NOS Prototype EAK I sold to Neil Finn a year ago.......

Two votes for Sound Creation. Maybe I need to see if Paiste would let me commission a Sound Creation China since they are producing cymbals with the 602 alloy...

EAK, huh? Interesting...

I admit I have NEVER seen a UFIP in my life!!!

I rock an 18 inch Wuhan China. I use it strictly for crashes and accent.

It sounds like a small child with a metal garbage can lid running full speed into a wall... and I love it hahaha

I fell in love with China's being used in slow passages in metal and hardcore songs. This China is that sound

You're right about the sounds IGNORED. This is one reason why I have crashes and hardly any splashes. I kinda wish I had the $$$ to collect EVERY colour there was to collect as far as a cymbal pallette!!!I went through a Zilly period, but they just are not very innovative. Zildjian make a quality product, but I am unimpressed as far as innovative cymbals. But then again- they are the oldest cymbal maker, so they are innovators in that way. Paiste thinks waaaay outside the box and is extremely innovative, followed by Sabian. Saluda actually is pretty innovative, as well.

I've been a lifelong Paiste guy. My first adult size kit was a 5 piece Avocado Strata set of Ludy Standards, which came with Paiste Mfg. cymbals. Later I got a "partial" sponsorship from the southeastern distributer of Rogers & Paiste, which meant that I got my stuff for cost & free shipping. I played 2002's then & had what I call the "Short Guy" version of Bonzo's kit, but never fell in love with the complete 2002 line. Then they introduced the Sig's...love at first smack! The Sig's were the first complete line that I really loved, sure there're some dogs in the pack, but as a whole, Paiste is much more consistent than any other Mfg. out there. I really love Zildjian's K line & until recently had a nice jazz setup, but they just don't offer enough colors on the pallet for me to jump ship. Also love me some Bosp's!...my God their stuff is great! I've got a great set of Versa Hats from the '05 NAMM show...amazing cymbals, but they don't sonically match my Sig's & I'm to old to start another obsession! LOL! Anyone out tried the Bosp's China's? I bet they are great!
