Hello all. My name is Howard Parks from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I've been drumming since I was a kid and learned from watching my uncle play. Reading music came later in school. I currently play on a Pacific drum set with a Pearl snare. Will be getting a Ludwig Breakbeats set when my tax returns comes. Also hope to get a vintage Ludwig some time in the future as well.

I was born in Southern California in the 60's so I missed that era, but I had older brothers and a sister. One brother had a Slingerland lavender satin swirl kit that I ended up inheriting when he got tired of drumming. Yay!

Had been in various bands in the 70's while in high school. Started in rock and evolving (de-volving?) towards heavy metal. The Slingerland didn't look "metal" so I traded for a cheap Rogers with big ass loud concert toms and 2 bass drums.

I proceeded to add more and more drums... another floor tom, then a set of roto toms, then a china cymbal. Pretty soon I had a Neil Peart sized kit. The problem was that I had to get this all into a Volkswagen bug. Being the Tetris master that I am, this was no problem as I use the 4th dimension kind of like Doctor Who.

For those of you who don't like electronic drums, turn away now. Avert your eyes.

Yes I have switched to electronic drums (kind of).

It has been my mission since 1984 to make electronic drums sound as natural as possible. I have succeeded in many ways, but have never been able to achieve the dynamics of a real kit. That being said, I have been a studio drummer for long enough to know when e-drums are appropriate and when they're not.

My redeeming value is that I will occasionally come across a wounded drum or piece of hardware and nurse it back to health.

Someday I will be able to afford a nice small 60's Slingerland kit just like I used to have.

Band names I can remember:

Sonic Force, The Latest, Ambition, Amulet, Chesire, Graven Image, Rising (with Tom Dumont)

I am the anti-drummer and can play stuff so arrhythmic that anybody with a heart condition should avoid hearing what I play.

Even if you don't have a heart condition, you should avoid hearing anything I play whether on guitar or drums.

I can, however, melt microphones with astonishing alacrity across 4 octaves only slightly slower than Jack Black does in "master exploder".

When I want to apply my sonic decimation to the mic diaphragm, I first have to get my rage on by listening to "muskrat love" followed by "billy don't be a hero".........twice.

If that doesn't cause the necessary rage, I just think back to when I shopped around my latest invention to such people as fernandes and tom scholz in the early 80s only to be told it wasn't marketable by fernandes.....who later ran with the idea.

That said, I have a pretty large late 1970s ludwig chrome over wood double bass set and a 14 x 6.5 super sensitive snare with 10 lugs as well as a spare snare which is an early pearl free floating snare that could possibly be the only one in existence that lacks any stripped out lugs.

Now if I can just find a source for some billy cobham 808 wood tip sticks in oak in a honey color...........

I'm new to both drumming and the forums, and thought I should tell you a little about myself.

I picked up my first pair of sticks around July last year, and started teaching myself to play using a set of practice pads. I got into drumming because I'm a big Rush head and I liked Neil Peart's style. I've had a dream of owning a set of chrome Slingerlands just like his from the Caress of Steel era forever. I also have fascination with MIJ kits, and Rogers-type hardware. I dig those Swivomatic tom mounts!

I got my first set (a used PDP set) back in August for about $250. I know they're not exactly 'vintage', but I would love for them to be. But at the time I needed whatever I could get, and they were pretty cheap.

My set has fluctuated in size a great deal, but I managed to stabilize it when I added a second bass drum and replaced my rototoms with real concert toms (even wrapped in copper). I suspect this one might be an MIJ set because of the shells. They appear to be luan/Philippine Mahogany. So perhaps a portion of my set is vintage, so let's just call it a hybrid -- or maybe a mutt...

Well here I am! Hello,howdy, top of the mornin to ya and all that jazz. I'm a 48 year old Drummer / motorcycle mechanic living in Virginia Beach VA USA I own a TAMA imperialstar Xtras I bought new in 1984 it consist of a 12,13,18,24 it used to have a 14 and a 15 but a wretched winch I used to live with pawned them and I never got them back. I just expanded the kit to fulfill my childhood dream set I bought another 24 kick and a 16 floor Tom I have plans to re wrap the whole kit. I also own a Custom maple shell cocktail kit And a brand new TAMA Silverstar dark mocha fade 10,12,14,20

Hi there, I'm Al, and I don't currently own anything too terribly vintage, outside of some 80's K/Z hi-hats and a late 70's Ludwig Standard aluminium snare... but that's subject to change. I do plan on keeping my eyes open for my two wishlisted snares, an original, no-paint Acrolite and a reasonably priced LM402 that doesn't look like the surface of the moon. Cheers!
