What type of wood for MIJ re-rings?

Loading...

Well, let me reel this back in to the original topic of discussion.....................

There is a chance that my re-rings might be pine. Kinda looks like pine. They are not stapled together and are in good shape. There are a few small chunks missing here and there, but nothing to affect the overall stability. I did put a little Minwax wood filler in the spots where the re-rings meet themselves, just to give them more stability and fill some gaps. I also put a few thin coats of polyurethane on the inside to give those 3 ply shells a bit more rigidity and strength, but nothing too crazy. So, whatever those re-rings are made of, they are now harder because of the poly.

I really like the way they came out! They sound very good, still nice and warm and open like wood drums should be, but I now feel a little bit better about the structural integrity of the drums, in case a guitar player decides to carry one or something!

"in case a guitar player decides to carry one..." That is funny. Not very likely, but still very funny.

Any pictures?
