Those shells and interiors are to die for! That's what vintage should look like. Good luck with repairing the bass drum. It will be well worth it when you are done. Great job so far.

Curtis - Great set of drums! They'll be well worth any time and work you have to do on them. Jeff gave you the best fix for the bass drum. I have a feeling the wrap will go back to shape when you tighten the clamp. Good luck, I'll be watching to see how they turn out.

So nice! Great advice from Jeff for the fix. If I can do it you can do it!! The wrap wrinkle is a bit odd but hope you can sort it as well. I hope these are keepers.... you sure don't find them everyday. +1 on the rust remover. I see it at home depot here and will pick some up. Thanks.
Sorry for the lack of updates on this restore. Been busy. I have almost completed all the hardware slowly but surely. The lugs on this kit while all functioning as they should are a bit rough on the exterior. Everything cleaned up pretty nice.
Still trying to get to the bass drum repair. I haven't rushed that because I want to make sure its done right. I am hoping to get a chance to show it to some people in person. Thats not to take away anything from Jeffs expertise and advice by any means. I am wondering if this shell just wasn't a bit out of round to begin with?
Would that be a common thing for a bass drum of this age?
Im also trying to figure out a date on this kit. It has no stamps inside and there are also no mufflers.
Can anyone help with this info?
EDIT: I also started to think about this. I have a old Slingerland bass drum from the late 70's that Im tempted to sacrifice to use as my inside out pieces to clamp to. What do you think about that?

I would not sacrifice another BD... ( especially a Sling )... a section of scrap 4x2 shaped with a bandsaw should do the job.. and maybe have a hairdryer on hand when you start the clamping process... Metal parts are looking nice ..
