Vintage W&A Kit Restoration

Loading...

Hi Gus!

Welcome to the Vintage Drum Forum.

Not 'prattling' at all, in fact any history we can piece together on the kit is welcome information. If you can track down the photo, I'll scan it and post it up here so we can share it with the boys. It's good to have you on-board looking over my shoulder as I work. Makes the job even more special for me. I love doing restorations/rehabs on worthy vintage kits and yours certainly falls into that category.

Enjoy the show... please feel free to comment anytime.

Here are a couple of shots in natural light. It's cloudy today, but the light is good enough to show the drum. see below

I'm taking a day off today, but I'll start on the bass drum tomorrow.

Dang John that snare looks fantastic!! Lots of elbow grease went into this I know!! I bet the fingers/hands get sore from all the cleaning and polish. Good your taking a day to rest up. Yep that bass is a beast alright. I can really appreciate the hard work involved having seen them in person. I knew you had your work cut out for you. By far one of the coolest drum sets I've ever seen. I'd be hard pressed to think there's many more like it if any out there. One of a kind.

Hi Gus!! Glad your along for the ride!! :) It's not often the former caretaker is here to see the process. Jam session at Johns house this spring!! :D

Cool that Gus has joined the forum, this is making the thread even more interesting.

John do the drums have badges? Can you post a close up of one please.

Thank you!

Holy smokes John! Great score and killer job this far. That is really unbelievable.

There was a thread sometime ago on the forum regarding W&A drums. It included a post or two from the daughter of the gentleman that built most of these drums. It explains quite a bit about their history.

Again, you are doing a great job!!!

you know John, most people don't realize what efforts go into restoring drums, it really take's booku hours and if your lucky to bring the original parts back, the worst is having to hunt them down if missing, even if shells are great. Congrats on a fine restoration great color....Mind Blowi

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Thanx, Gary... Half the fun for me is sharing it with all you drum-bums. Who else would even care... :p

Jeff - You asked: "John do the drums have badges? Can you post a close up of one please. "

The only badge I've found so far is on the snare drum. (see photo) The bass drum has two vent holes on top with grommets, but no badge. I haven't seen any badges on the toms either. The snare drum was tagged inside the shell with a gold W&A logo and a stamped-in serial number. I haven't pulled the heads off of the 28" yet. I'll let you know what I find inside of that one. I'll post photos.
