Wasn't sure what I was getting but even if I turned it into a coffee table, lamp, clock and trashcan I was getting a good deal. No badges or other identification but figured out it is some sort of Star configuration. Bass drum is 20" Toms are 12" and 14" Snare is 14". I started taking everything apart and meticulously cleaning, polishing and reassembling. So far I have the rack tom and snare done. The wrap is faded but tight and some parts are broken (bass drum cymbal mount) and some are missing (snare drum tone control, bass drum spurs, misc bass drum mounts) Any tips or tricks for restoration and help identifying an exact model or year would be great! From what I see the snare strainer was introduced in the '67 catalog. I plan to re-head the whole kit at some point too. Any suggestions on what heads to use would be welcomed.

Amazing! The hardware looks identical to my Supremes and Tempos except my bass drums are twenty-two inchers. I would estimate late sixties stencils of Star. My Star bass is twenty inches but, with different hardware. For twenty dollars you made a fantastic buy! Evaporust is a great product for small pieces of hardware. Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover is good for rims and rails. Carnauba wax is good for everything. PLEASE, no steel wool! Let me know how things progress please. Nice buy!!!

I will never use steel wool or and abrasive on chrome parts! (even though I have been tempted).

I have been cleaning all the hardware with dawn dish soap and Turtlewax Chrome Polish. Some of the rims I have had to use a 10 min coat of Naval Jelly and then the chrome polish.

Did that set come with a complete cymbal arm holder? THE ULTIMATE SCORE! I think most of the staggered lug sets were branded "Majestic".

Try Novus on that wrap...It should help bring it back to life...

For heads, I would use coated ambs for batters and reso`s...

Cheers

Is it my eyes or just the way the photo is taken, but are those bass hoops the same size?

Either way, that's a nice score!

Bass hoops are the same size! The seller did not have the heads but the hoops and all of the claws and tension rods were there.

Here is my progress so far:

The snare hoops cleaned up fine but there a fair amount of noticeable chrome flaking. I will probably put new rims on it someday, until then these will work just fine!
