WOW - that is a GREAT Score! That snare should sound great too! I restored a Star snare with the thicker shell like that - sounded GREAT!

The needle has landed.....I bet you have the urge to find another one already don't ya!?!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Hello,

Great score - congrats!

Would like to add that Star used two different versions of bass drum lugs: see pic below.

I can't see clearly which version you have.

If you've got the version on the right side (with the more 'angular' shape): beware of taking these lugs off the shell. They tend to brake VERY easily in the thread for the fixing screws, as the connections screw-thread are fixed strongly over the decades ...

The left version (more 'round') is problem-free and more sturdy: easy to take off the lugs and put them on again.

Cheers, Ralf

ID: it's definitely a drum kit made by STAR. All hardware parts state that.

Thanks for all the feedback and tips.

I assume this arm is broken? Does anyone know if there is a good used one available? Any info or pictures of what this should look like would be great!

I also do not have the spurs that belong to this bass drum. Any ideas?

The Snare does sound great! I used heads that I already had lying around until I settle on what heads I want to use long term. I'm thinking Vintage Ambassador over Diplomat Hazy Snare Side. What snare wires do you guys suggest?

I do have urge to get another one already! I'm 29 and this is my first vintage restoration. I love it! Gives me a deeper appreciation for the drummers who came before me.

Thanks for the heads up Ralf! I, thankfully, have the problem-free ones on the left. I took all the hardware off the bass shell last night to start cleaning it up and had no issues.

No badges on the drums. In fact, I had no idea what I was buying when I got them. It was only after the fact that I used Ralf's website for Star drums that I was able to identify what I had.

Here's a pic:

This arm is more than rare (meaning: almost impossible to find another one ...). As you have the bottom part of the bar, I'd try to weld a long bar onto it - although then the balance of power wouldn't allow to take a 20" Ride on top, I assume ...

You can make replicas by yourself out of a chrome rod (as e.g.).

Mine are 24 cm long and have a diameter of 9.0 mm. But please check it out first, whether the diameter in your brackets perhaps allows a slightly more thick diameter (perhaps 10 mm?).

Cheers, Ralf
