I am BLOWN AWAY.
I had thought about making lugs.
.........never did it.
FANTASTIC WORK ALL AROUND.
I love the extended lugs on the FT.
Great Work Sir.

Thanx guys.
One day I'll post pictures of how I made the lugs. Quite simple actually. The tubes are standard aluminum tube outer diam. 10 mm and inner 8 mm. I fixed inserts in them, so I didn't have to cut thread.
The BD hoops are 3-plys of solid oak. Not steambent (too lazy to make an installation for that)
Yes the re-rings are stave as well, to prevent cracking in the far away future.
I guess it will be another 2 or 3 months untill I can show you the finished BD.

How did you join the ends on the bD hoops ?
I didn't. I know ways of doing that, but I'm a bit lazy and I have good results with not doing that. The oak hoops on these two sets I made the same way and they are still perfectly in tact:

I used high power glue and I thought of the fact that wood, if kept in a certain shape for long enough, will fix itself in that shape. The tension that is now on the joint at the ends will decay over time. The joint won't be visible, cause I'll put them behind a claw.
The link don`t work for me.
OK I see what you did now, you`ve got each ply joint lined up in a different spot so when together, one joint don`t go all the way through.
Just beautiful drums and craftsmanship! I think I see Johnny Craviotto looking over his shoulder!!

The rack tom is finished.
And here's an explanation of how I made the lugs
pic 1: You see an ordinary insert. I grinded away the hexagonal shape. Then I grinded a groove into the insert.
pic2: the insert is pushed into the aluminum tube. I hit it with a hammer and screwdriver at location of the groove. The insert is now stuck. To secure it extra I deformed the aluminum at the utter end of the tube.
pic3: a piece ofa solid round rod. a threaded hole inside(m4).
pic4: The screw goes through the small hole in the tube and pushes and keeps the tube inplace.
Awesome and thank you so much for sharing. Might be something I may do to a snare of mine someday.
